Originally constructed by Dallara in 2008 as the fourth and final DP-01 prototype developed for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, this 2008/2012 Dallara-Corvette Daytona Prototype represents one of the most successful Corvette DPs of its era. Delivered new to Wayne Taylor Racing, chassis 004 competed under the iconic SunTrust Racing banner from 2008 through 2011, amassing an impressive record of seven overall victories and 23 podium finishes across 41 starts.
Following the 2011 campaign, the car was comprehensively updated to third-generation Daytona Prototype specifications, receiving Corvette C6-inspired bodywork in line with Grand-Am’s revised 2012 regulations. The revamped machine returned to competition for two additional seasons, culminating in a dominant 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series championship run that included five victories.
The DP-01 program emerged after Dallara assumed Doran Racing’s role in Grand-Am competition ahead of the series’ second-generation Daytona Prototype ruleset. By 2012, Corvette DP models paired Pratt & Miller-designed Corvette styling cues with proven Dallara, Riley, or Coyote chassis architecture, creating some of the most recognizable prototypes of the era.
Today, the prototype is currently offered for sale on Bring a Trailer and retains its aggressive C6-style Corvette silhouette, complete with signature split rear-window styling, quad taillamps, extensive aerodynamic elements, and a period-correct Velocity Worldwide-inspired orange livery wrapped over carbon-fiber-look bodywork. Underneath sits a thoroughly race-bred chassis equipped with adjustable pushrod suspension, Brembo braking hardware, Michelin slicks, and an Xtrac five-speed sequential transaxle.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.45-liter Chevrolet V8 engineered by Earnhardt Childress Racing to meet IMSA’s 600-horsepower Daytona Prototype regulations. Featuring individual throttle bodies, dry-sump lubrication, Bosch engine management, and lightweight racing internals, the engine delivers the raw, high-revving character synonymous with the golden era of American prototype racing.
Acquired by its current owner in 2018, the car has since appeared in Ferrari Club track events and Masters Historic Racing competition, including an outing at Circuit of the Americas, where it secured a sixth-place finish in 2019.
