Brook Weisblat, host of the popular YouTube channel DragTimes, has been racing the Corvette E-Ray on the drag strip. In their previous videos, the all-wheel-drive hybrid Corvette with 655 horsepower has already proven itself by keeping pace with the Porsche 911 Turbo S and beating a McLaren 600LT.
This time around, the E-Ray is going up against the hallowed C8 Z06, powered by a most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in production making 670 HP. The E-Ray used here is a convertible with carbon fiber wheels and no aero package. The Z06, on the other hand, is a coupe equipped with the full aero package and hardtop. This was a classic matchup of AWD versus RWD, hybrid torque versus naturally aspirated power.
The folks ran multiple heads-up drag races and as expected, the E-Ray launched harder thanks to its electric front axle, consistently hitting 0–60 in the 2.8-second range and running the quarter mile in the low 10s. The Z06 held its own but struggled to match those launch times on the unprepped surface. Even after giving the Z06 a slight head start in one of the runs, the E-Ray closed the gap quickly, showing just how effective its AWD system is off the line.
