The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray receives one of its most significant updates since the C8 debuted, introducing a new naturally aspirated V8, revised exhaust tuning, and enhanced performance hardware. Tested by Joe Raiti at Atlanta Motorsports Park, this Torch Red Stingray 3LT with the Z51 Performance Package demonstrates how Chevrolet has evolved its entry-level Corvette while preserving the mid-engine platform’s core character.
New 6.7-Liter LS6 V8
The major change is the 6.7-liter LS6 V8, which replaces the previous 495-hp engine with 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. The engine features a 13:1 compression ratio, a larger 97-mm throttle body, a new oil pump, additional fuel injectors, and forged crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. Power continues to reach the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Chevrolet’s quoted performance figures include a 0-to-60-mph time of 2.6 seconds, a 10.7-second quarter-mile, and a 186-mph top speed with the additional aerodynamic equipment associated with the Z51 package. The car weighs approximately 3,700 pounds.
Z51 Performance Hardware
The Z51 specification adds forged aluminum wheels, six-piston Brembo front brakes, four-piston rear calipers, an electronic limited-slip differential, Magnetic Ride suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires. The setup uses 245-section rubber at the front and 305-section tires at the rear, while a pedestal-style rear spoiler and functional heat extractors contribute to the car’s track-focused configuration.
This particular Stingray also features the optional $2,000 center-mounted quad-tip exhaust. On track, Raiti notes a stronger and more cohesive exhaust note, while the revised standard system is also louder than the previous model year’s setup. More importantly, the LS6 delivers a smooth, linear torque curve and continues pulling toward its 6,500-rpm redline.
The Z51 chassis complements the additional output with strong braking response, quick dual-clutch shifts, and substantial mechanical grip from the Michelin tires. The combination allows the Stingray to maintain a composed line through corners while providing predictable responses when driven aggressively.
3LT Interior and Technology
Inside, the 3LT specification features two-tone leather, red stitching, competition seats with additional bolstering, heated and ventilated seating, wireless charging, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a 14-inch digital instrument cluster, Performance Data Recorder, and head-up display. Track mode also reorganizes the driver’s instrumentation around performance-focused information.
With the new LS6, upgraded chassis equipment, sharper exhaust note, and expanded technology, the 2027 Corvette Stingray 3LT Z51 represents a comprehensive evolution of the C8’s entry point into the Corvette lineup.
