Source Says the C8 Corvette ZR1 will be a Hybrid and Have 900 HP

That's one high-powered machine

Are You Ready for a Hybrid Vette?

The Corvette has gone through a dramatic transformation in 2020. The car switched from a front-engine layout to a mid-engine one. If that wasn’t a big enough shift, a new high-placed source within Chevy told MotorTrend that the C8 Corvette ZR1 will be a hybrid car and feature 900 hp.

This isn’t the first time this rumor has surfaced. A high-powered hybrid has been suggested in the past and even some unnamed sources said it was a possibility, but now this new source could be the confirmation many people were looking for.

The source didn’t go into details, but MotorTrend says the car will share the Z06’s new engine but add an electric motor and a battery to the equation to increase horsepower to 900 and allow for torque fill capability.

The specifics of the design aren’t yet known, but one possibility is for the electric motor to be placed between the engine and the transmission to help boost the overall output. Another possibility is that the car would get an electric motor upfront. This would eliminate the small frunk but it would add some additional power and all-wheel drive. Either one sounds great to us, and we can’t wait to see something official from the Corvette Team.
