For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L36 427/390 4-Speed

Although the Coronavirus continues to have a grip on much of our nation (and the world), we are beginning to see our first glimpses at a world AFTER the COVID-19 pandemic.  In time, people will return to life as “normal” (though our collective “future normal” may look different from the one we all knew a few months ago).  When it does, car shows and cruise-ins will once more become a weekend-must for all gear heads and enthusiasts alike.

For anyone looking to become part of the Corvette community, we want to share with you this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette coupe that we found for-sale (via auction) by our friends at bringatrailer.com.

This 1968 Corvette underwent a body-off refurbishment in 2013.  According to the car’s previous owner, this refurbishment included a rebuild of the car’s numbers-matching L36 – a 427 cubic-inch V8 engine – as well as the car’s four-speed Muncie transmission. The L36 engine was factory rated at 390 horsepower and 460 lb./ft/ of torque.  In addition to the rebuild in 2013, both the engine and transmission received a full fluid service just prior to being listed for sale.  For those interested in verifying the engine for this car, the engine block is stamped with the following suffix – S412281 – which matches the final seven characters of the vehicle’s chassis number.   It is also worth noting that this car has a replacement exhaust system installed.

On the exterior, the car’s fiberglass body was repainted in Rally Red back in 2013.  The car features split rear numbers, removable T-top roof panels and pop-up headlights.  The selling dealership states that a paint correction was completed in 2020 and that the car is in excellent condition (as can be witnessed by the pictures throughout this article.)  The car rides on factory 15″ rally wheels that feature polished hubcaps and beauty rings.  The rims are wrapped in period-specific Goodyear tires.  The car comes equipped with KYB “Gas-A-Just” shocks and factory-installed four wheel disc brakes.
