The team at DragTimes put Chevrolet’s groundbreaking 1,250-horsepower Corvette ZR1X head-to-head against one of the most formidable hybrid supercars ever produced—the Ferrari SF90 Stradale—in a series of quarter-mile drag races and roll-racing contests at Arizona’s Apex Motor Club.
Representing Ferrari was the SF90, a 986-horsepower plug-in hybrid supercar that originally carried a sticker price exceeding $700,000. On paper, the Italian exotic remains one of the quickest production Ferraris ever built, combining twin-turbocharged V8 power with electric motors for explosive acceleration. The question was whether it could withstand the onslaught of Chevrolet’s latest electrified performance flagship.
The testing consisted of three standing-start quarter-mile races followed by two roll races on Apex Motor Club’s 3,500-foot straightaway. Despite the challenging conditions, with density altitude climbing to approximately 3,600 feet and temperatures continuing to rise throughout the day, both cars delivered impressive performances.
The SF90 launched exceptionally well in every run, consistently showcasing the remarkable traction and instant torque that have made it a benchmark among modern supercars. However, once speeds climbed, the Corvette’s substantial horsepower advantage began to dominate. The Ferrari recorded quarter-mile times in the 9.8-second range at roughly 143 mph, while the ZR1X repeatedly dipped into the low 9.3-second bracket and approached 150 mph at the finish line.
The trend continued in the roll races, where the Corvette’s superior power-to-weight ratio and relentless acceleration allowed it to pull away decisively. Although the Ferrari proved more competitive than anticipated and remained remarkably quick in adverse conditions, the ZR1X ultimately swept every contest.
The results further underscore the extraordinary value proposition of Chevrolet’s new flagship. At roughly a third of the Ferrari’s price, the Corvette ZR1X delivered supercar-slaying performance, demonstrating that it possesses the speed and capability to challenge—and defeat—some of the world’s most prestigious high-performance machines.
