At TX2K, Brooks Weisblat was able to drive one of the wildest Corvettes ever built—the 1,250-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X—to take on not one, but three Tesla Model S Plaid challengers in a series of quarter-mile showdowns.
The stakes were high. The ZR1X had already proven itself previously, by beating a Demon 170 at TX2K and showcasing brutal 8.8–8.9 second passes, firmly planting it in hypercar territory. Meanwhile, the Plaid remained the benchmark for consistency, ripping off low-9-second runs with relentless, repeatable launches.
From the first hit, the Corvette made its intentions clear. Launching hard with its hybrid all-wheel-drive system, the ZR1X repeatedly grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Even in rising Texas heat, it churned out back-to-back 8-second passes—8.89 at over 150 mph—showing remarkable consistency for a combustion-based machine.
The Plaids, though still quick, struggled to match that pace on the day. One example ran below its usual performance, while backup cars—despite solid 9.3-second capability—couldn’t overcome the Corvette’s explosive start and top-end charge. Race after race, the result stayed the same: the ZR1X dominating off the line and stretching its lead through the traps.
By the end of the session, the message was clear. The once-unbeatable Plaid had finally met its match. In these conditions, the hybrid Corvette wasn’t just competitive—it was the new king of the quarter mile.
