Brooks Weisblat travels to Dallas for the TX2K meet, teaming up with Peter to test his 1,250-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X on the quarter mile. The goal is to see if a customer-owned car can match the astonishing factory times set by Chevrolet’s own team.
Running during a pre-event test-and-tune session in near-ideal conditions, the car is lightly adjusted for speed, including aerodynamic tweaks to reduce drag. Despite Chevrolet not recommending some of these changes, the focus is on extracting maximum performance.
On track, the ZR1X delivers explosive launches and remarkable consistency, repeatedly running in the 8.7-second range. A best pass of around 8.74 seconds at nearly 160 mph, along with a 0–60 mph time of just 1.7 seconds, highlights its capability as one of the quickest production cars available.
Even with minimal support compared to factory-backed efforts, the results confirm the ZR1X’s immense performance, showing that real-world examples can come impressively close to record-setting runs.
