The Overview
Chevrolet has sold a Corvette every year but one since 1953, and this is the list of them. Each generation’s table below gives every model year with its body styles, its engines and their outputs, how many were built and what the base car cost, and links to the year’s story and to its research page, where the production numbers, options, colors, VIN format, specs and documents live. The thumbnail is the year; the row is the car.
The model lines run across the generations, and the second table sorts the list that way: the Sting Ray and Stingray names, the Z06 from its 1963 racing option to today’s flat-plane car, the ZR1 from the 1970 LT-1 package to the 1,064-horsepower twin-turbo, the Grand Sport from Duntov’s five lightweights to the 2027 revival, the E-Ray, the ZR1X and the Grand Sport X, and the Collector, Anniversary and Pace Car editions. The lineup as it stands in 2027, six models wide, has its own table.
The pages that go deeper are linked throughout: the eight generation hubs, the special-edition guide, the pace cars, the anniversary cars, the concepts, the race cars, the Z06 and ZR1 pages and the best-Corvettes guide, each a catalog of its own kind.
How the Corvette Lineup Grew
For its first ten years the Corvette was one car. Today it is six. Here is how the list got longer.
One car, 1953–62
The C1 was a convertible and nothing else, with a removable hardtop from 1956; the choices were engines, colors and options. The 1953 (300 cars, all Polo White) and the 1957 fuelie are the years people name, and the 1962 327 closed the generation.
Two bodies and the first names, 1963–82
The 1963 Sting Ray added the coupe, and with it the first names on the list: the Z06 racing package of 1963, the big blocks and the L88 of 1965–69, the ZR-1 and ZR-2 packages of 1970–72. The C3 dropped the convertible after 1975, added the first special editions (the 1978 Silver Anniversary and Pace Car replica, the 1982 Collector Edition) and ran fifteen years, the longest of any generation.
The ZR-1 and the Grand Sport, 1984–96
The C4 brought the convertible back in 1986, the 35th Anniversary in 1988, the ZR-1 as a separate model in 1990 (the first Corvette with its own engine, the DOHC LT5), the 40th Anniversary in 1993 and the Grand Sport and Collector Edition of 1996, plus the Callaway twin-turbos sold through Chevrolet dealers.
The modern lineup takes shape, 1997–2013
The C5 added the hardtop in 1999 and made it the Z06 in 2001, the first Z06 as a model; the 50th Anniversary of 2003 and the Commemorative Edition of 2004 followed. The C6 added the Z06 (2006), the ZR1 (2009), the Grand Sport (2010) and the 427 Convertible and 60th Anniversary of 2013: four models, the widest lineup to that point.
Stingray, Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1, 2014–19
The C7 brought the Stingray name back for the base car and ran the same ladder: Stingray (2014), Z06 (2015), Grand Sport (2017), ZR1 (2019), with the Carbon 65 Edition and the special editions in between.
Six models, 2020 on
The mid-engine C8 began as the Stingray alone (2020) and added the Z06 (2023), the E-Ray hybrid (2024), the ZR1 (2025), the ZR1X (2026) and for 2027 the Grand Sport and the Grand Sport X, which replaces the E-Ray: six models, the most ever, from a 535-horsepower Stingray to a 1,250-horsepower ZR1X. The lineup table below gives each one.

FAQs
How many Corvette models are there?
By model year, 74 (1953 to 2027, with no 1983). By model line, today’s six (Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1, ZR1X) plus the names that came and went: the E-Ray (2024–26), the Sting Ray, the L88, the Collector and Anniversary Editions, the pace-car replicas and the Callaways. The tables above list all of them.
What are the Corvette generations?
Eight: C1 (1953–62), C2 (1963–67), C3 (1968–82), C4 (1984–96), C5 (1997–2004), C6 (2005–13), C7 (2014–19) and C8 (2020–present). Each has a hub with its story, every year, the special models, the engines and the market.
Why is there no 1983 Corvette?
The C4 was late. Chevrolet built 43 pilot cars in 1983 but sold none; production started as the 1984 model year in January 1983. One 1983 survives at the National Corvette Museum.
What is the difference between a Stingray, a Z06, a Grand Sport and a ZR1?
The ladder of a modern Corvette lineup: the Stingray is the base car; the Grand Sport is the wide-body car with the Z06’s chassis hardware and the Stingray’s engine; the Z06 is the track car with its own engine (today the 670-hp flat-plane LT6); the ZR1 is the fastest, with forced induction (today the 1,064-hp twin-turbo LT7). The E-Ray, ZR1X and Grand Sport X add a hybrid electric front axle to the Stingray, ZR1 and Grand Sport.
Which Corvette years were convertible only, or coupe only?
Convertible only from 1953 to 1962; coupe and convertible from 1963 to 1975; coupe only from 1976 to 1985 (T-tops or a glass hatch); both again from 1986; a hardtop joined the C5 in 1999 and became the Z06; the C8 convertible is a retractable hardtop.
Which Corvette model year sold the most?
1979, with 53,807 cars. 1984 (51,547) and 1978 (46,776) follow. The rarest are 1953 (300), 1955 (700) and 2018 (9,686, the lowest since 1962). The production-numbers page has every year.
What is the most powerful Corvette?
The 2026–27 ZR1X: 1,250 horsepower from the twin-turbo LT7 and an electric front motor, under two seconds to 60. The ZR1 (1,064 hp) is the fastest, at 233 mph. Among the classics the 1967–69 L88 (about 550 real horsepower) and the 1969 ZL1.
Where do I find the production numbers, options and VIN for a year?
On the year’s research page, linked from every row above: production by body and option, the RPO codes and prices, the colors, the VIN format, the specs and the documents. The story-and-guide link beside it is the narrative.
