C8 CORVETTE - 2023

The 2023 Corvette

Corvette’s 70th year brought the naturally aspirated, 670-hp Z06: 6,413 built among 53,785 Corvettes, the second-highest annual total. The C8.R closed its career with victory at Le Mans and the WEC title.

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is powered by the 5.5L LT6 engine, the highest horsepower, naturally-aspirated production V-8 to hit the market.
The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 70th Anniversary coupe finished in Carbon Flash Metallic.

Twenty-two cars. The 2023 model year built 53,785 Corvettes — the most Bowling Green has ever made and the second-highest total in seventy years — and the 1979 record of 53,807 set by the St. Louis plant survived by twenty-two cars. GM had stretched the 2023 run to sixteen months to make up for the chip-shortage years, and Harlan Charles was still calling the count “not the total final” at the Museum in August 2023; the final sheet in January 2024 fell short by the number of cars the plant builds in about an hour.

Chevrolet Corvette C8.R
Chevrolet begins a new chapter in its storied racing legacy with the introduction of the new mid-engine Corvette race car, known as the C8.R. The C8.R will be Chevrolet’s first mid-engine race car to compete in IMSA’s GTLM class and the first clean sheet race car design since the C5.R debuted in 1999. It will make its racing debut at Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 25, 2020. The C8.R is based on the strong foundation of the 2020 Corvette Stingray.

2023 Corvette Z06

Revealed on October 26, 2021 and built from September 2022, the 2023 Z06 was the mid-engine Corvette the C8.R had been hiding in plain sight: the 5.5-liter LT6 — a flat-plane-crank, dual-overhead-cam V-8 with titanium rods, finger-follower valvetrain, twin 87-mm throttles and a six-stage dry sump, hand-built at the Performance Build Center inside the Bowling Green plant — making 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm and 460 lb-ft, revving to 8,600 and sounding like nothing Chevrolet had sold before, the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 in any production car. Around it a body 3.6 inches wider on 20 x 10 and 21 x 13-inch forged wheels with 345-section rear tires, its own fascias and five heat exchangers, a 5.56 axle, standard Magnetic Ride 4.0 and Performance Traction Management, 14.6 and 15-inch Brembos with six-piston fronts and an adjustable rear spoiler; the $8,995 Z07 package added the carbon aero (734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph), Cup 2 R tires, carbon-ceramic brakes and the FE7 suspension, with Carbon Revolution carbon-fiber wheels 41 pounds lighter as an option, for 2.6 seconds to 60 mph, 10.6 in the quarter and 1.22 g. It cost $106,395 as a 1LZ coupe and $113,895 as a convertible, $120,245 and $127,245 as 3LZs, and dealers asked far more: Bowling Green built 6,413 in the model year — 3,109 coupes and 3,304 convertibles, the first Corvette since 1968 to sell more open cars than closed — 5,252 of them 3LZs, 1,845 with Z07, 1,022 as 70th Anniversary Editions, 49 with customer-chosen VINs and 23 in right-hand drive. VIN 001, a 70th car, brought $3.6 million for Operation Homefront from Rick Hendrick at Barrett-Jackson on January 29, 2022, and a White Pearl 70th Z07 paced the Indianapolis 500 four months later. The 2023 Z06s had the LT6 engine-replacement campaign of early 2023 to get through; by 2025 the markups were gone and the car was what it had been built to be — the Z06 the C8 was designed around.

2023 Corvette 70th Anniversary Edition

Chevrolet marked the Corvette’s seventieth model year with a package for both cars, RPO Y70, $5,995 on a 3LT Stingray or a 3LZ Z06 — announced with the Z06 on October 26, 2021 and detailed in March 2022. It brought two exclusive paints, White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat and Carbon Flash Metallic, Edge Red stripe accents on the bodywork, red calipers, 70th Anniversary wheel center caps and badges, satin-gray or satin-black full-length stripe packages ($995), a Ceramic White and Black two-tone interior with red stitching and red seat belts, a sueded microfiber steering wheel, a 70th build plaque, a fitted indoor car cover and 70th graphics on the cluster and under the hood. Bowling Green built 5,601 — 10.4 percent of the year — 1,569 Stingray coupes, 3,010 Stingray convertibles, 389 Z06 coupes and 633 Z06 convertibles, 65 percent of them White Pearl, with Z51 on 79 percent of the Stingrays and Z07 on 296 of the Z06s (109 of them coupes). The first retail Z06, the $3.6 million Hendrick car, and the 2022 Indianapolis 500 pace car were both 70th Anniversary Z06s. The package puts nothing in the VIN; the plaque and the paint are the markers. 70th Anniversary Z06s with Z07 brought $150,000–$250,000 in 2023 and 2024 and have settled near their $130,000–$155,000 stickers; the Stingrays carry a few thousand dollars over an equivalent 3LT.

2023 Corvette C8.R

The C8.R’s fourth season was its last, and it ended with a championship and a Le Mans win. With GTE Pro gone from the World Endurance Championship, the No. 33 Corvette Racing C8.R ran GTE Am with Ben Keating, Nico Varrone and Nicky Catsburg and won the first two races, the 1000 Miles of Sebring and Portimão, finished second at Spa and then won the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10–11, 2023 from the garage — a damper broken in an incident in the first ninety minutes, the car repaired and driven back to a class win by more than a lap, Corvette Racing’s ninth Le Mans class victory and the C8.R’s first. Fourth at Monza on July 9 was enough to clinch the GTE Am drivers’ and team championships with two rounds to spare, and the car ended the season with second at Fuji and seventh in its last race, the 8 Hours of Bahrain on November 4, 2023. In IMSA’s GTD Pro class the No. 3 of Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor won at Mosport the same day as Monza — the car’s first GTD Pro win since Sebring 2022 — and at VIR, and finished third in the points for the second year. On June 9, 2023 General Motors announced the end of the factory Corvette Racing program after twenty-five seasons, 124 wins and three Le Mans entries a year since 2000; from 2024 the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, a customer car built around the production Z06, races with Pratt Miller Motorsports and private teams. The 2022 IMSA GTLM Championship Edition and the C8.R-liveried 2024 Z06 GT3.R road-car tributes carry the livery on.

What was the 2023 Corvette Z06?

The eighth-generation Z06: a Stingray body widened 3.6 inches on 20 and 21-inch wheels around the new 5.5-liter LT6 — a flat-plane-crank, dual-overhead-cam V-8 making 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm and 460 lb-ft, revving to 8,600, hand-built in Bowling Green and derived from the C8.R’s race engine, the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 in any production car — with a 5.56 axle, standard Magnetic Ride, 14.6 and 15-inch Brembos with six-piston fronts and an adjustable rear spoiler. The $8,995 Z07 package added carbon aero (734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph), Cup 2 R tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, the FE7 suspension and optional carbon-fiber wheels; GM quoted 2.6 seconds to 60 mph and 10.6 at 131 in the quarter. What was the 2023 Corvette 70th Anniversary Edition?

A $5,995 package (RPO Y70) on 3LT Stingrays and 3LZ Z06s for the Corvette’s seventieth model year: White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat or Carbon Flash Metallic paint (both exclusive to the package), Edge Red stripes, red calipers, 70th center caps and badges, satin-gray or satin-black stripe packages, a Ceramic White and Black two-tone interior with red stitching, red belts, a sueded steering wheel, a build plaque and a fitted car cover. Chevrolet built 5,601 — 1,569 Stingray coupes, 3,010 Stingray convertibles, 389 Z06 coupes and 633 Z06 convertibles, 65 percent in White Pearl — with Z51 on 79 percent of the Stingrays and Z07 on about a third of the Z06s. The 2022 Indianapolis 500 pace car was a White Pearl 70th Z06, and Z06 VIN 001 was a 70th car.

Did the 2023 Corvette pace the Indianapolis 500?

Yes, a year early: a 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary coupe in White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat with the Z07 package paced the 106th Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2022, driven by Sarah Fisher — the nineteenth Corvette pace car and the first Z06 to pace since 2006 — months before the first production Z06 was built. The 107th race, on May 28, 2023, was paced by a 2024 Corvette E-Ray, so the 2023 model year’s pace car belongs here and the 2024’s on the next page. No replica was sold.

How did Corvette Racing do in 2023?

It won a championship in the C8.R’s last season. With GTE Pro gone, the No. 33 Corvette Racing C8.R of Ben Keating, Nico Varrone and Nicky Catsburg ran the World Endurance Championship’s GTE Am class and won the 1000 Miles of Sebring, Portimão and the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10–11, 2023 — recovering from a broken damper in the first ninety minutes to win by more than a lap, Corvette’s ninth Le Mans class win — then clinched the GTE Am drivers’ and team titles at Monza with two rounds to spare. In IMSA’s GTD Pro class the No. 3 of Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor won Mosport and VIR and finished third in the points. In June 2023 General Motors ended the factory Corvette Racing program after twenty-five years; the C8.R’s last race was Bahrain on November 4, 2023, and the customer Z06 GT3.R run by Pratt Miller Motorsports took over in 2024.

How much is a 2023 Corvette worth today?

Classic.com’s benchmark for the C8 Z06 (2023–2026 together) was $134,263 in October 2026; 2023 3LZ coupes with 4,000–9,000 miles ask $121,000–$125,000, under their $120,245-plus-options stickers, and the 70th Anniversary cars that brought $150,000–$302,500 in 2023–24 (the $302,500 Mecum Glendale convertible of March 2023 is the C8 auction record) now bring about their sticker. The 2023 Stingray trades like the 2022 — $60,000–$80,000 at dealers, 70th Anniversary cars at $80,000 and up, no auction results on the Classic.com pages served — and renders no benchmark. The Z06 markups of 2023 are gone; a 2023 Z06 is a used Z06 now, and the 70th cars, the Z07s and the 296 that are both are the ones with a premium. Check whether a buyer’s premium is included in any auction price you compare.
