In this track test from Driven+ on YouTube, two mid-engine V8 performance cars go head-to-head: the McLaren 750S and the Corvette E-Ray. Both are extremely quick, but they take very different engineering paths to reach their performance goals.
The McLaren 750S is the latest model in McLaren’s Super Series. It’s powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 740 hp and 800 Nm of torque, driving only the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. With a claimed 0–60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, active aerodynamics, and a carbon-fiber monocoque, it’s built as a road-legal track weapon. Pricing starts around $315,000, with the tested car closer to $440,000.

The Corvette E-Ray takes a different approach. Its naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 is paired with a front-mounted electric motor for a combined 655 hp and 805 Nm. All-wheel drive and instant electric torque help it achieve a claimed 0–60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. At roughly $193,000, it undercuts the McLaren dramatically.

On the circuit, the E-Ray set a strong benchmark at 51.44 seconds, benefitting from its traction and balance. However, the McLaren’s lighter chassis, aerodynamics, and sharper rotation delivered a slightly quicker 51.14-second lap. The gap — just 0.3 seconds — highlights the Corvette’s exceptional value, considering the nearly $250,000 price difference.
