FOR SALE: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible L88

1 of 20 L88 convertibles built in 1968

With just 216 units built from 1967 to 1969, the L88 Corvette remains one of the most sought-after models among enthusiasts. Distinguished by its raised intake hood, the L88 package featured high-performance components like the Muncie M22 4-speed manual transmission, J50 power brakes, J56 heavy-duty disc calipers, F41 suspension, and K66 transistorized ignition.

Though officially rated at 430 horsepower with stock exhaust manifolds and conservative redline limits, real-world output was closer to 560 horsepower. It lacked comfort features like air conditioning and power steering, but buyers could still opt for power windows, an engine block heater, a hardtop, and a rear defogger for cold-weather use.

Offered for sale on Bring a Trailer, this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88 is one of around 20 convertibles produced during the model’s second production year. Originally delivered to Harte Chevrolet in Meriden, Connecticut, the car underwent restoration between 2003 and 2014, which included refinishing the car in its factory color, British Green, and a refresh of the saddle vinyl interior.

A 427ci V8 with an L107 date-coded block was installed in the 1990s. The car was further optioned with a color-matched hardtop, 15″ Rally wheels wrapped in Firestone redline tires, 3.36:1 rear gears, and a domed hood with a built-in air cleaner. The car received a Bloomington Bronze award in 1997, was acquired by the current owner in April 2022, and earned an NCRS Second Flight Award later that year.
