Top 10 Is No Joke

This Shouldn’t Come as a Big Surprise

Due to the fact that Corvette is often called America’s sports car, it’s no surprise that the vehicle is one of the cars in the world that has the most made-in-America content. Cars.com puts out an American Made Index every year, and for 2020 the C8 Corvette ranked number eight on the list.

The leader for the index was the Ford Ranger, but anything in the top 10 is very good. The Corvette usually makes this list, so it was no huge surprise to see it in the top 10 again. In fact, we expected the car would be on this list. However, with the C8 Corvette being a complete redesign, we were unsure where it would fall. Number 8 is okay with us.

Of all the General Motors vehicles on sale, only two—the Corvette and the Colorado midsize pickup—managed to make it to the top 10 list. This year’s list actually includes numerous Tesla vehicles. Other than the GM vehicles, Teslas, and Ford’s Ranger, there was one Jeep and three Hondas (many Hondas are made in Alabama).

The index doesn’t just look at where the car is assembled, it also looks at where the components are sourced from and the entire content of the vehicle. Cars.com did a detailed analysis of 91 cars, and this year’s list of the top 10 is somewhat surprising. We’re glad to see the Corvette is still on there, though not surprised at that particular vehicle.
