GM Issues Recall For 2020 Corvette C8’s

Relating to the trunk, but not because of the opening while driving issue...

GM has issued its first recall notice for the 2020 Corvette C8.

The issue, in particular, relates to the interior trunk release button in the frunk. As per NHTSA (USA) and F/CMVSS (CAN) rules, the interior trunk release must be operational at all times.

The issue is that the C8, in order to save battery power, will enter an electronics “sleep mode” after 10 minutes of the doors being locked after the car shuts down. This sleep mode deactivates the interior release button as well, as the computer that controls the release is sleeping.

Thankfully, the repair will be entirely done by a software update and will lower the voltage needed to wake the computer in control of the trunk and latch releases. This way, the button will still be active and the computer will register the request, wake up, and pop the latch.
