Introduced in 1963, the second-generation Corvette Sting Ray combined striking looks with performance capable of rivaling the world’s best. Its handling set new standards, thanks to a redesigned chassis featuring the first fully independent suspension on a Corvette, developed under the guidance of engineering chief Zora Arkus-Duntov.
Only 771 Fuelies left the factory in 1965, and among them is this Rally Red Chevrolet Corvette Coupe with Black vinyl interior, now available for sale through Sotheby’s Motorsport. It is powered by the L84 V8 paired with Rochester mechanical fuel injection and a 4-speed manual transmission—a true competition-grade setup in its era.
Inside, the cabin features bucket seats, a Teakwood steering wheel, a Delco AM/FM radio, and a dashboard clock. The M-20 transmission channels power to the rear wheels, while four-wheel disc brakes hide behind knock-off cast aluminum wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Silvertown bias-ply tires. Side-mount exhausts complete the period-correct presentation.
