How will our Florida Vettes do today? Photo Credit: Manheim

If you’re new today, thanks for joining CorvSport! Time flies, and we’ve done 36 exclusive wholesale market reports since I developed and produced the first one in February 2024. We began in the Florida market, then moved to Texas to heat things up, as we felt the 30% successful sales ratio from Florida was a bit low, and we were not wrong! The wholesale market in Texas has continued to impress, but we sensed that vindication was in order, so we headed back to Florida for the redemption tour. As with all our exclusive market features, this wholesale market report is FREE and not behind a paywall. If/when any pop-ups appear, please click to dismiss them and continue enjoying the article.

Just two weeks ago, Florida had their first run at redemption and pulled a respectable 71% sales ratio. How will they do today? As a former used car dealer for 17 years, I enjoy delving into the wholesale Corvette market as much as attending wholesale auctions to battle it out on the block with other dealers. Well, not always, as it was disappointing to leave without anything, or to pay too much. How many dealers left disappointed after today’s run of Corvettes?

If this is your first time with us, I developed these exclusive wholesale market reports 69 weeks ago to provide enthusiasts and shoppers with insights into the used C8 market. If you want to check out interesting wholesale trends, especially as we transitioned from the Florida to the Texas market and now back to Florida, we have our full archives available below today’s results.

A Quick Review Of The Process:

In preparation for each installment, I start a list of Corvettes from that week’s runlist that catch my eye. As a retired owner/operator of a used car dealership, I’ll use my 17 years of experience (and industry access) to give you insights into the market. My search is focused on the nation’s largest dealer-only wholesale auction, and all the Corvettes featured are from the Texas or Florida market. Corvettes end up at a dealer-only wholesale auction for many reasons, but most are trade-ins that the dealer decided not to retail on their lot. Some may also be repossessions or coming off leases. It’s also common for dealers to dump problem (or slow-selling) units at an auction.

For Fun (and Insights):

Compare the MMR (estimated wholesale value) to the actual hammer price (if sold). It’s also interesting to compare the wholesale purchase price (if it sells) to the Cox Automotive estimated retail value, as this will give you an idea of the margins used-car dealerships are working with.

Top 7: Wholesale Dealer-Only Auction Activity Report

#7

1998 C5 Convertible 1SB Auto

54,907 Miles

Condition Report: 4.1/5.0

Announcements:

Autocheck History Report: 8 owners, 0 accidents

MMR: $14,150

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $13,900 (55,913 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $12,000 (50,576 mi)
  • Last Year: $6,800 (97,227 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $16,150

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: NO SALE

(Insights: The older Corvettes typically don’t do very well at the wholesale auctions, but I picked this one hoping that its “resell-red” status would defy the odds. Since this was a sharp and strong running C5, it’s likely the selling dealer’s reserve was too high for the wholesale market.)

#6

2011 C6 Coupe 2LT Auto

47,560 Miles

Condition Report: 4.9/5.0

Announcements: None

Autocheck History Report: 4 owners, 0 accidents

MMR: $17,600

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Last Year: $20,400 (63,040 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $24,700

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: NO SALE

(Insights: This was another surprise for me, as this C6 looked great in the pictures and on paper. This is another one we can chalk up to a high reserve from the selling dealer.)

Condition Report: 4.5/5.0

Autocheck History Report: 1 owner, 0 accidents

(Insights: Well, so far, it appears that Florida is back to their old ways. It’s possible the 4.5 condition report turned bidders off, because the rest looks great.)

#4

2022 C8 Stingray Convertible 3LT

12,755 Miles

Condition Report: 4.4/5.0

Announcements: None

Autocheck History Report: 1 owner, 1 accident

MMR: $71,700

(MMR=estimated wholesale value, based on vehicle, miles, condition, and recent auction sales)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $72,300 (13,239 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $72,100 (10,566 mi)
  • Last Year: $76,200 (10,582 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $75,700

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: Sold for $65,500

(Insights: This sale confirms the old saying, “if the price is right.” Despite the lower condition report and accident on the history report, this C8 still sold, albeit at $6,200 under MMR.)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $68,900 (12,543 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $67,000 (11,987 mi)
  • Last Year: $75,500 (2,607 mi)

Estimated Retail Value: $73,600

(Based on Cox Automotive retail transactions)

Auction Results: NO SALE

(Insights: This C8 looked good on paper, so perhaps it was the color that turned off bidders.)

Historical Wholesale Averages

  • Past 30 Days: $83,500 (1,422 average miles)
  • 6 Months Ago: $74,000 (526 mi)
  • Last Year: Not available

Estimated Retail Value: $88,800

(Insights: The purchase was a bit over MMR but well under Manheim’s estimated retail value. A good buy for a cool-looking C8.)

Summary: Okay, it appears that Florida is back to doing what Florida does best. With only a 43% successful sales ratio, I’m sure many dealers left disappointed that they did not get the Corvette they wanted. As we continue to dive into the Florida wholesale market, it will be interesting to see if Florida can redeem itself and consistently reach the 70s and 80s. Thanks for joining CorvSport today, and we’ll see you in two weeks!
