The C5 Z06 has always stood at a unique crossroads. On one hand, it represents a dream car for many who grew up in the early 2000s—an affordable performance machine that still packed serious punch. On the other, it’s become a popular platform for builds ranging from pristine garage queens to stripped-out drift cars.
In a new video from Roads Untraveled on YouTube, we got to see a 2003 Corvette Z06 that falls somewhere in the middle. It’s now powered by a Gen IV 6.2L LS3-based engine with a cam and bolt-ons that produces around 550 horsepower. Supporting mods include American Racing headers, Lingenfelter electronics, a Maziere electric water pump, a Corsa exhaust, and a full cooling and fueling overhaul.
A thoughtful mix of driveline, suspension, and cooling improvements supports the upgraded powertrain. The drivetrain features a twin-disc clutch, lightweight flywheel, and adjustable hydraulics. The suspension ditches the stock leaf springs for QA1 coil-overs, upgraded sway bars, and full poly bushings. The result is sharper handling and better feel, especially on track.
All these mods are what make the C5 Z06 unique. It’s a performance bargain with real tuning potential. This C5 Z06 proves that a well-built “cheap Corvette” can still punch way above its weight, whether on the street or at the track.
