Edmunds puts the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport to comprehensive instrumented testing and intensive track evaluation to determine whether it occupies the ideal middle ground in the Corvette lineup. Positioned between the standard Stingray and the more focused Z06, the Grand Sport combines the naturally aspirated V8 power of the Stingray with chassis and aerodynamic upgrades derived from Chevrolet’s higher-performance models.
At its core, the Grand Sport uses a 6.7-liter naturally aspirated LS6 V8 producing 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. Its wider rear track, upgraded suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, larger tires, and Z06-derived braking hardware are intended to provide substantially greater cornering capability without sacrificing everyday usability. Edmunds measured the Grand Sport at 3,778 pounds—approximately 85 pounds heavier than a similarly equipped Stingray.
Performance testing demonstrates that the additional hardware does not significantly compromise straight-line acceleration. On Edmunds’ unprepared test surface and without a rollout, the Grand Sport reached 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds. Its 105-foot braking distance from 60 mph matched the Stingray, while its 1.07-g skid-pad result surpassed the Stingray’s 1.03 g and narrowly exceeded the Porsche 911 Carrera’s 1.06 g.
On track, the Grand Sport’s defining characteristic is balance. Its combination of substantial rear tire width, responsive chassis tuning, and abundant naturally aspirated torque makes it easier to exploit than the more extreme Z06. While it lacks the Z06’s razor-sharp responses and high-revving flat-plane-crank V8, the Grand Sport delivers impressive grip and confidence while remaining more approachable as a daily sports car.
Ultimately, Edmunds characterizes the Grand Sport as a compelling synthesis of the Corvette range. The Stingray remains the value-oriented entry point, while the Z06 offers a more specialized track experience. The Grand Sport, however, adds meaningful performance and driver confidence without abandoning the Corvette’s everyday practicality, including its removable targa roof and useful front and rear cargo areas.
