Corvette E-Ray Proves Its Mettle In Hybrid U-Drag Race

How the Corvette E-Ray's raw power pushed the hybrid 911 to its limit

The latest Edmunds U-Drags brings together two of 2025’s most advanced hybrid performance machines: the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray and the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Hybrid. Both feature electrified powertrains, all-wheel drive, and launch systems engineered for maximum traction. The format remains classic U-Drags—¼-mile sprint, hard braking into a 180-degree turnaround, and a full-throttle return to the start/finish—followed by a driver and lane swap.

The 2025 Corvette E-Ray arrives with 655 hp and 595 lb-ft of torque, riding on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Track mode and GM’s Performance Traction Management (PTM) in “Race 1” optimize grip for the non-prepped surface.

Opposite it, the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Hybrid brings 532 hp and 449 lb-ft, using a single turbo paired with two electric motors. In Sport Plus with stability control off, Porsche’s launch control and a steering-wheel “boost” button deliver additional electric thrust on command. It’s rolling on Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS rubber.

In the first run, both cars launched cleanly, but the Porsche gained an early advantage with its electric assist. Through the braking zone and rotation, it remained composed and used its boost to pull ahead on the return straight. The Corvette stayed close, but the GTS crossed the line first.

After switching drivers, the E-Ray showed why it’s considered the most accessible of the hybrid Corvettes. Its all-wheel-drive traction pulled it out of the corner with surprising ease, and it briefly took the lead. The Porsche responded with another strong launch and ultimately reeled the Corvette in during the final sprint. The finishing margin was razor-thin, but the GTS claimed a second win.

Official numbers favored the Porsche with a 2.8-second 0–60 time, a 10.9-second quarter mile at 130 mph, and the winning U-Drags run at 31.6 seconds and 143.1 mph. The Corvette remained competitive throughout but couldn’t overcome the Porsche’s launch advantage and electric boost on the return leg.
