At Island Dragway, two icons of American performance squared off in a quarter-mile drag race captured by the folks from ImportRace on YouTube.
In one lane stood Chevrolet’s Corvette E-Ray, the first hybrid in Corvette history. It pairs a 6.2-liter V8 with an electric motor driving the front axle, creating a 655-horsepower all-wheel-drive supercar. The E-Ray’s instant electric torque delivers ferocious launches, enabling it to post quarter-mile runs in the 10.5-second range.
Facing it was Ford’s Mustang, a name synonymous with pure American V8 power. This example is a fifth-generation Mustang GT, powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Driving the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or optional automatic transmission, it manages 0–60 mph in approximately 4.3 to 5 seconds and reaches a top speed of nearly 155 mph.
Although it’s obvious who will take the win in this quarter-mile showdown, be sure to watch the video on how the Mustang GT performed against the hybrid Corvette.
