DragTimes returns to the dragstrip for a rematch between a C8 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and a Tesla Model S Plaid after their earlier race drew criticism that the ZR1 was not performing properly. For this run, conditions are improved: the ZR1’s rear wing has been removed and the weather is better, allowing the car to record test passes as quick as 9.4 seconds at 154 mph earlier in the day.
The race takes place at Bradenton Dragstrip, where both drivers discuss the matchup. The ZR1 shows a higher trap speed, while the Tesla relies on its extremely strong launch. In the first run, the Tesla driver made a launch error, allowing the ZR1 to take the win with a 9.58-second pass while the Plaid still managed a 9.2-second time despite the mistake.
The second race was cleaner, with the Plaid launching properly and pulling ahead early, though the ZR1 stayed competitive through the run. With each car claiming a win, the drivers agree to a tiebreaker to settle the score. In the deciding race, the Tesla delivers a strong launch again and pulls away, showing the advantage of its instant electric torque despite the ZR1’s higher trap speed.
