This isn’t just another Corvette—it’s the wildest one yet. And it’s not a concept. It’s real, it’s coming soon, and it might just be the American hypercar we’ve been waiting for.
Corvette Goes Full Mad Scientist
General Motors just pulled the covers off the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, and it’s something else. Think of it as the ultimate mash-up of everything GM has learned from the Z06, ZR1, and the hybrid E-Ray—then crank it all up to eleven.
“It is the most advanced Corvette we’ve ever produced. America’s true hypercar has arrived,” said Megan Dalley, Corvette marketing manager.
“We are putting the world on notice with this car, showing what Corvette and America’s true supercar is capable of.”
This beast pairs a twin-turbocharged LT7 V8 with a front electric motor for a total of 1,250 horsepower and 973 lb-ft of torque. It launches like a missile thanks to electrified all-wheel drive, going from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds. That’s right—two. Seconds.
Here’s What’s Under the Hood
The ZR1X brings hybrid tech to the performance table in a way we haven’t seen from any Corvette before:
- 1,064 hp from the new twin-turbo LT7 V8
- 186 hp from a stronger version of the E-Ray’s front motor
- 1.9-kWh battery, upgraded with 29% more usable energy
- Rev range bumped from 16,000 to 17,000 rpm
- All-wheel drive tuned for maximum traction off the line
“It brings performance, electrification and all-wheel drive to further enhance the unthinkable ZR1,” said Josh Holder, Corvette chief engineer.
“It brings learnings from the ZR1 and the E-Ray, and combines them to create an unbelievable driving experience.”
Massive Brakes, Mean Aero
You’ll need serious stopping power with this kind of speed, and Chevy delivered. The new J59 braking package includes:
- 10-piston Alcon front calipers, 6-piston rears
- 16.5-inch rotors front and rear—the biggest ever on a Corvette
Add in the available Carbon Aero Package, and this thing isn’t just built for straight-line thrills—it’s designed to destroy road courses too.
And yes, that split rear window on the coupe? It’s a shout-out to the legendary 1963 Sting Ray.
So, What’s It All Mean?
Forget the “Zora” name—GM went with ZR1X, and it officially sits at the top of the Corvette food chain. It’s the boldest move yet for the C8 platform and makes the case that Corvette isn’t just chasing hypercars anymore. It is one.
According to GM, the ZR1X is part of a broader push to build out a highly profitable “Corvette family” that now spans five models—from the entry-level Stingray to this electrified flagship.
“Corvette is a very profitable vehicle for the company, and we continue to be the pinnacle of performance,” added Dalley.
Chevy hasn’t dropped pricing yet, but this one won’t come cheap. Expect something north of $200,000, and look for it to hit dealerships later this year. As always, it’ll be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
