By the close of the 1950s, Zora Arkus-Duntov and his GM team were already focused on redefining the Chevrolet Corvette. Their efforts culminated in the second-generation C2, launched for 1963, which introduced striking new styling by Larry Shinoda and Peter Brock alongside a significantly improved chassis. These C2 Corvettes have since become some of the most desirable and collectible examples of the marque, as well as prime candidates for high-end restomods.
Currently listed on Bring a Trailer is a bespoke 1963 split-window Corvette built by Jeff Hayes, showing just 10 miles since completion. Power comes from a 6.2-liter LS3 crate V8, featuring a pewter-finished fabricated intake manifold and matching Corvette-script coil covers. Polished headers feed a thermally wrapped exhaust system with an H-pipe and MagnaFlow mufflers. A 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission sends power to a reinforced solid rear axle with a limited-slip differential.
Finished in Daytona Blue, the car sits on a custom Art Morrison chassis with adjustable coilovers, tubular front control arms, rack-and-pinion steering, a rear torque arm, and sway bars. Braking is handled by polished Wilwood drilled and ventilated four-wheel disc brakes.Inside, a teakwood steering wheel complements Caramel Nappa leather upholstery with tan contrast stitching throughout the cabin.
Woven carpets, illuminated Corvette-script sill plates, a button-top shifter, accent lighting, power windows, a retro-style stereo, and Vintage Air climate control complete the interior. Exterior details include flip-up headlights, fender vents, quad taillights, chrome bumperettes, a power-operated hood, and staggered 18-inch front and 19-inch rear Schott wheels.
