The folks from The Fast Lane Car on YouTube lined up a 1994 Dodge Viper against a modern C8 Corvette in a series of quarter-mile drag races at a mile above sea level, pitting old-school American muscle against the latest in sports car engineering.

In the first race, the C8 Corvette with launch control quickly pulled ahead and crossed the finish line first. Powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8 producing 495 horsepower and paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the C8 Corvette ran the quarter mile in 12.27 seconds with a 0 to 60 time of 3.95 seconds. The Viper, using its massive 8.0-liter V10 rated at 400 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque with a six-speed manual, crossed the line in 15.45 seconds.

A second run was held without launch control in the Corvette to level the field. Times slowed slightly, but the C8 still pulled ahead with a 12.79-second quarter mile. The Viper improved, clocking a 14.4-second run.

The matchup finished with a rolling race from 30 miles per hour. This format eliminated launch issues and allowed the Viper to stay closer, but the Corvette still pulled ahead thanks to its dual-clutch transmission and higher power band.
