The 50th Anniversary Edition was unveiled before the 2003 model year existed: the convertible that paced the 86th Indianapolis 500 on May 26, 2002, with Jim Caviezel driving, was a 2003 anniversary car in Anniversary Red over Shale, and Chevrolet announced the edition and Magnetic Selective Ride Control the same April. The magnetic shocks were a Cadillac idea borrowed back: Delphi’s MagneRide had debuted on the 2002 Seville STS, and the Corvette got it a year later, the first sports car with it. Every 2003 Corvette carries the 50 emblem, so an anniversary badge alone proves nothing; the Anniversary Red paint and Shale cabin do.

2003 Corvette Z06

For 2003 it gained the 50 emblems, a thicker headliner to meet the new head-impact rules and child-seat hooks, and lost nothing; the 50th Anniversary package and Magnetic Selective Ride Control were not offered on it, the magnetic shocks weighing 13 pounds more than its conventional units.
