The Overview
The C6 Corvette ZR1 was built 2009–2013, 4,684 cars by GM’s counts. The first six-figure Corvette and the “Blue Devil”: a 638-hp supercharged LS9, a carbon roof, hood and fenders, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and 205 mph.
The Blue Devil: a 6.2-liter LS9 with an Eaton supercharger and twin intercoolers making 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft, the most powerful engine GM had built, in the Z06’s aluminum frame with carbon-fiber roof, hood, fenders, splitter and rockers, a window in the hood over the supercharger, Magnetic Ride, 15.5-inch carbon-ceramic brakes and 335-section rear tires. 205 mph, 0–60 in 3.4 seconds, 7:26.4 at the Nürburgring, and $103,300 in 2009, the first six-figure Corvette, $112,575 by 2013. Chevrolet built 4,684: 1,415, 1,577, 806, 404 and 482, and the first one sold for $1 million for charity. In 2026 ZR1s sold for $73,700 to $151,250 with Classic.com’s benchmark at $100,221; the 2012–13 Centennial and 60th cars and anything under 5,000 miles bring the most.

The C6 Corvette ZR1 Story
The C6 Corvette ZR1
The ZR1 returned again during the C6 era, once again without the hyphen, but it packed all sorts of power. The supercharged LS9 V8 delivered 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Corvette to date.
Many of the body panels were comprised of carbon fiber to reduce weight while magnetic suspension, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and huge, sticky tires came together to make this one of the best performing American cars ever. This machine could dash to 60 in just 3.3 seconds, running the quarter-mile with an 11.2 at 130.5 miles per hour and stop from 60 in just 97 feet.
The C6 ZR1 was the fastest production Corvette ever to that date and, moreover, was the quickest car in its price range. While the ZR lettering dated back to the ’70s, it was the ’90s model that stirred more emotions. The C6 ZR1 was the true King of the Hill among its brothers, and it was quicker than the much-famed Ferrari F430 from the same era. While it wasn’t the best car on cornering, it was a hard-to-catch one on the drag-strip or in straight-line acceleration.
The Corvette followed the same principles as before: light, aerodynamic bodywork, and functional scoops on the sides. At the front of the car, a nose-scoop allowed more air to get to the supercharger covered by a transparent polycarbonate window area on the hood. It was the most extravagant idea made by GM designers for the beloved American supercar. In the coupe shape, the carbon-fiber roof featured two bulges for the driver and the passenger.
Inside, the Corvette featured a modern-looking interior with an integrated infotainment system installed on the wide center stack. The tall center console hosted the short gear-stick, the handbrake, and a storage compartment big enough for a quick trip to the race-track. Its high-bolstered sport seats offered great lateral support. From the technical point of view, the ZR1 was more than just a Corvette with a more powerful engine. Its reinforced rear axle, the magnetic ride control, and the limited-slip differential were part of the package. A state-of-the-art fuel injection system fueled the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, and the six-speed manual was the only option.

2012 Corvette ZR1
The ZR1’s fourth year brought its first hardware change: the PDE High Performance Package ($1,495; 184 of 404 cars), Michelin Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires on lightweight Cup-style wheels in machine-faced silver or black with Performance Traction Management and Magnetic Ride recalibrated to suit, which took a 2012 ZR1 around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:19.63 in June 2011. The 638-hp LS9, TR6060, carbon-ceramic brakes and 205-mph top speed were unchanged; the price rose to $112,500 delivered with the gas-guzzler tax down to $1,000; the new seats, steering wheel and padded console came inside. 206 were Centennial Editions in Carbon Flash with satin-black wheels and red calipers, more than half the year, and a ZR1 badged as a 2013 paced the Indianapolis 500 in May 2012 with Guy Fieri at the wheel. Six owners built their own LS9s at Wixom and four chose their own VIN numbers.
In 2026 they sold at auction for $102,000 to $151,250, the top price a 3,000-mile Centennial, against a $100,221 C6 ZR1 benchmark.

The C6 Corvette ZR1 Buyer’s Guide
The C6 ZR1 is the first supercar Corvette and already the collectible C6: 638 hp from the LS9, a manual only, carbon-ceramic brakes, Magnetic Ride and carbon bodywork, 4,684 built over five years. The LS9 has none of the LS7’s valve-guide history, so the buying questions are mileage, the special editions and the condition of the parts that are expensive to replace: the rotors, the supercharger and the clutch.
The 2009 first-year car and the 2013 last-year car carry the premiums, with the 2012–13 PDE cars (the Cup tires, the stiffer calibration) the performance pick; 2010–11 cars are the value. Most ZR1s have led easy lives, so a 10,000-mile car with a full history is easy to find; a tracked one needs its brakes and clutch looked at.
Which C6 Corvette ZR1 to Buy

| 2009 | 1,415 | $103,300 + $1,700 tax | 638 hp | First year, 1,415 built; the collectible, with the 60 pilot cars at the top. |

| 2012 | 404 | $112,500 + $1,000 tax | 638 hp | The PDE package (Cup tires, the recalibrated chassis) and the Centennial Edition; the performance pick. |
| 2013 | 482 | $112,575 + $1,000 tax | 638 hp | The last year and the 60th Anniversary package; the last-year premium. |
What a C6 Corvette ZR1 Costs Today
Auction and dealer results the site has tracked, by year; check whether a result includes the buyer’s premium, and treat asking prices and unsold high bids separately from completed sales.
The 2010 ZR1 trades a little under the 2009 on mileage alone (second-year cars had PTM and the same 638 hp) and has the same split between driven cars in the $80,000s and $90,000s and delivery-mileage cars above $120,000.

The VIN positions, the labels, the stampings and the parts that prove a C6 Corvette ZR1 is what it claims to be, from the year pages, year by year; where a later year repeats an earlier one, only what is new is added.
2009: Verifying a ZR1: R in the fifth and eighth VIN positions (1G1YR26R) with an 800001-series sequence (700001 for the 60 pilots), LS9, MH3, FE5, J57 and R8E on the console label, the polycarbonate hood window over the “LS9 SUPERCHARGED” intercooler cover, the Wixom plaque, clear-coated carbon on the splitter, rockers and roof, the 19 x 10 / 20 x 12 wheels and the carbon-ceramic rotors (gray-black, with no scoring.
2010: On a ZR1, T in the eighth position and an 800001-series number.
2011: Verifying a Carbon Limited Edition: the VIN is 1G1YL2DE?B56 followed by 0001 to 0252, nothing else qualifies, and the console label shows ULZ, Z07, CFZ, 3LZ and Q6U.
2012: Verifying a Centennial Edition: it has no VIN marker, so the service parts label is the proof: ZLC, F55, paint 58U, the RUL, RUM or RUR wheel code and 38S. A PDE ZR1 shows PDE and XFH with the silver or black Cup wheels. A Grand Sport has P–X in the fifth VIN position and Z16 on the label, a ZR1 T in the eighth and an 800xxx number, a Callaway B2K on the label and a Callaway serial plaque under the hood and on the fenders.
2013: Verifying a 427 Convertible: the VIN reads 1G1Y73DE?D57 followed by a 00001–02552-range number, a 7 in the fifth position and E for the LS7; the car has the Z06/ZR1 wide carbon fenders, the raised carbon hood, 427 hood badges, 19/20-inch Cup wheels, gray calipers, a ZR1-style spoiler and the dry-sump tank where a Grand Sport convertible has none. A PDE ZR1 PDE and XFH; a ZR1 has T in the eighth position and a 6 in the fifth with an 800xxx number.

The C6 Corvette ZR1 Inspection List
What to check on a C6 Corvette ZR1 before the money changes hands, from the year pages, with each year adding what is new.
2009: Inspection: the ZR1’s LS9 has been durable, but check supercharger bearing noise, the intercooler pump and the twin-disc clutch (a known rattle and a known wear point), the carbon-ceramic rotors (chips at the edges, uneven wear. The 2009 ZR1 is the C6 to buy if you want the one that will matter.
2010: The electronic column lock, roof-panel bond, power top, 6L80 shift quality, NPP actuators, headlamp yellowing and the foam-in-place dash panels that can bubble at the edges apply to all. On the ZR1, the supercharger, intercooler pump, twin-disc clutch, carbon-ceramic rotors and carbon panels. The 2010 ZR1 the one to buy if you want PTM and the 2009’s price.
2011: The twin-disc clutch on the ZR1 and the supercharger’s intercooler pump are its own items.
2012: The Cup tires on Z07 and PDE cars, which age and are expensive, and the carbon-ceramic rotors, which should be measured; the twin-disc clutch and intercooler pump on the ZR1; and on every C6 the electronic column lock, roof-panel bond, power top, 6L80 shift quality, NPP actuators, headlamp yellowing and the dash and door panels that bubble, now leather-wrapped on the Centennial and 4LT cars and better for it. The Centennial ZR1 (206 built) is the year’s collectible; a PDE ZR1 or Z07 Z06 the one to buy to drive.
2013: A 60th ZR1 (three of 482 on offer in a year) the rarest.

What Goes Wrong: The C6 Corvette ZR1’s Known Issues
The faults a C6 Corvette ZR1 is known for, the years they affect, what they look like and what the fix is. None of them should stop a purchase; all of them should be on the checklist, and a car with the paperwork for them is the one to buy.
| ISSUE | YEARS | WHAT HAPPENS | THE FIX |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supercharger coupler and bearings | 2009–13 | A rattle at idle from the LS9’s supercharger snout. | The isolator coupler; a specialist job, not an engine failure. |
| Intercooler pump | 2009–13 | The charge-cooler pump fails and the intake temperatures climb under boost. | An inexpensive pump; a scan tool shows the intake air temperature rising on a pull. |
| Twin-disc clutch | 2009–13 | The clutch rattles at idle (normal) and wears on tracked cars (not). | Check the pedal and the take-up; a clutch is a torque-tube-out job. |
| Carbon-ceramic rotors | 2009–13 | Standard on every ZR1; they wear by weight and cost a five-figure sum. | Have them weighed at a dealer before you agree a price. |
| Carbon bodywork | 2009–13 | The hood, roof, fenders and splitter are carbon and the clearcoat on the exposed-weave pieces can yellow or craze. | Look at the roof and hood in daylight; repainting carbon is expensive. |
| Polycarbonate hood window | 2009–13 | The window over the engine cover scratches and hazes. | Cosmetic; replacements exist. |
| C6 general | 2009–13 | Headlamps that yellow, the dash and door panels that bubble, the NPP exhaust actuators, the PS2 tires that age out. | The usual C6 list; the site’s C6 buyer’s guide has it. |
The C6 Corvette ZR1 Options and Editions That Matter
What moves the price of a C6 Corvette ZR1 beyond mileage and condition: the packages, the equipment groups and the special editions, and what each does to the value.
MORE: THE SPECIAL EDITIONS / MSRP BY YEAR
| OPTION OR EDITION | WHY IT MATTERS | WHAT IT DOES TO THE PRICE |
|---|---|---|
| 3ZR equipment group | The full interior and the custom leather-wrapped package; most cars have it. | Expected; a 1ZR car is the value. |
| PDE / Z07-style package (2012–13) | The Cup tires, the recalibrated Magnetic Ride, the black wheels. | A performance premium. |
| Chrome or black wheels | The 2009–10 chrome wheels against the later black or polished sets. | Taste; no premium. |
| Centennial (2012) and 60th (2013) packages | Carbon Flash with satin-black wheels; Arctic White with the 60th stripes. | A modest premium. |
| Pilot cars (2009) | The first 60 built, numbered in their own VIN series. | A premium with the documentation. |
| Delivery mileage | Many ZR1s were bought to keep; sub-5,000-mile cars are common. | Mileage sets the price more than any option. |
What a C6 Corvette ZR1 Costs to Own
A ZR1 costs about what a C6 Z06 costs to run until something ZR1-specific wears out: the rotors, the Cup tires on a PDE car, the supercharger’s coupler and the clutch. Oil is a dry sump of Mobil 1 (about ten quarts), the fuel is premium and the drinking is serious. Parts other than the LS9 and the carbon are shared with the Z06.
Insure on an agreed value: the ZR1 trades well above the Z06 and a standard policy will not reflect it.
