The Overview
The C7 Corvette Z06 was built 2015–2019, 39,940 cars by GM’s counts. The supercharged C7: a 650-hp LT4, the wide body it shared with the Grand Sport, a coupe or convertible, manual or automatic, with the Z07 package for the track.
The first Z06 with a convertible body and an automatic, because the C7’s aluminum frame no longer needed a fixed roof. The LT4 put a 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger, titanium intake valves, forged pistons and a dry sump on the LT1 for 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft; the body was 2.2 inches wider at the rear with its own splitter, spoiler and ducts; the Z07 package added carbon-ceramic brakes, Cup 2 tires and the big aero for 1.2 g. 0–60 in 2.95 seconds with the eight-speed, $78,995 in 2015 and $80,590 by 2019, and 39,940 built: 8,653, 14,275, 7,273, 2,802 and 6,937, including the 650 C7.R Editions of 2016 and 353 Carbon 65s of 2018. In 2026 driven Z06s sold for $41,500 to $99,000 and delivery-mileage cars to $110,000; Classic.com’s benchmark was about $76,600, and the C7.R Edition’s $93,824.
This page has every model year of the C7 Corvette Z06 in its own section with the year page’s account, the specs, the numbers and the posts; the figures by year; the colors; how it compares to its siblings; the site’s guides, videos and news; and a buyer’s guide: which year to buy, what to pay, how to verify one, what goes wrong and the site’s market reports. The C7 Corvette Z06 Story
The Upgrade Of The Upgrade: The Z07
When the Corvette C6 made its debut in 2005, with a LS2 V8 producing 430 HP, more than the C5 Z06, in base spec, it was a barely kept secret that there was going to be a Z06 package available in a few years, as the C6.R race car was not developed in secrecy. There was no wasting time this generation, as the Z06 was launched in 2006, with a LS7 V8 chucking 505 HP to the rear wheels. Corvette enthusiasts were over the moon, but behind the scenes, whispers of a car named “Blue Devil” were circulating. After much speculation, the supercharged Corvette C6 ZR1 was unveiled in 2007, and boasted a spine shattering 640 HP and 604 lbs-ft of torque from its new LS9 engine when it went on sale in 2009. That was a very significant power jump of 135 HP between the high performance car and the high performance version of the sixth generation. While no one was really griping about it, Chevy took it upon themselves to develop a new package option that made a “race ready” Corvette available without needing to shell out the over $100,000 to buy the ZR1.
So, much to the surprise of everyone, there was a new “ultimate performance package” listed for the 2011 model year, with the code of Z07 and an additional $9,495 added to the sticker of a Z06. The Z07 was quickly nicknamed the “track pack” because of the track-focused nature of the included equipment, which were the first implementation of magnetorheological suspension components on a Corvette called “magnetic selective ride control,” Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, larger wheels all around, and damned-near-semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, which were fitted to larger, lightweight ZR1 style 20 spoke wheels. And these are just some of the things that were thrown in!
The Corvette C7 Z07 had even more to the table, with the optional add-on of carbon fiber aerodynamic parts. These were in the form of a front splitter with winglets, rocker panels, and a NASCAR-style rear lip spoiler that could also be set up to have a wickerbill in the center to add even more downforce, or you could splurge out on the options list and get a GT-wing version. It also upgraded the already strong 6- and 4-piston steel Brembo brakes of the Z06 to carbon ceramic-matrix brakes, which were second generation carbon ceramics that did not suffer the sudden “grabbing” that many first generation carbon ceramic brakes did for many manufacturers.
With the C8 Z06 available now, the Z07 performance package carries the same major upgrades, such as carbon ceramic-matrix brakes, front and rear carbon fiber aerodynamic pieces, but both the Z06 (option) and Z07 (included) takes it one step further by offering the first GM-provided carbon fiber wheels on a Corvette, called Carbon Revolution. Compared to the standard motorsport-grade aluminum wheels of the standard Z06, these wheels remove 10.25 lbs per corner, or 41 lbs unsprung weight. It may not seem like 41 lbs would make a difference, but as unsprung weight, every ounce counts, and even Chevy estimates that at most mainstream tracks like Road America, Virginia International, Sebring, and the like, the carbon wheels could reduce lap times by up to 2 seconds.
However, for us, we’re just happy that the Z06 performance version of the Corvette is here to stay this time, and we’re quite sure that were Zora still around, he’d have given it a major stamp of approval to reuse the badging.

2015 Corvette Z06
Revealed at Detroit on January 13, 2014, a year after the Stingray, and in showrooms from January 2015, the C7 Z06 took the Stingray’s aluminum frame (20 percent stiffer than the C6 Z06’s steel-and-aluminum structure) and put under its hood the LT4, the 6.2-liter small-block with a 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger, direct injection, titanium intake valves and a dry sump, 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft, the most powerful engine GM had sold; behind it a seven-speed manual or, for the first time in a Z06, an automatic, the new eight-speed 8L90. The body grew 2.2 inches in front and 3.15 at the rear over 19 x 10 and 20 x 12-inch wheels on 285/30 and 335/25 Michelins, with Brembo six-piston front brakes, Magnetic Ride, an electronic limited-slip differential and a removable roof panel, and for the first time since 1963 a Z06 convertible. The Z07 package ($7,995) added carbon-ceramic brakes, Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and adjustable aero that gave the most downforce of any production car GM had tested; so equipped Chevrolet claimed 2.95 seconds to 60, 10.95 at 127 in the quarter, 1.2 g and 99.6 feet from 60 to 0.
It listed at $78,995 for the coupe ($79,995 from February 2015) and $83,995 for the convertible, and 8,653 were built on their own 600001 VIN series, 6,980 coupes and 1,673 convertibles, 3,378 with Z07, 4,467 manuals and 4,186 automatics, 519 1LZ, 2,202 2LZ and 5,932 3LZ. In 2026 they sold at auction for $49,500 to $88,000 against a $76,331 C7 Z06 benchmark.
The 650-hp, 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one of the most capable vehicles on the market, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.95 seconds, achieving 1.2 g in cornering acceleration, and braking from 60-0 mph in just 99.6 feet.2015 C7 Corvette Z06: Specs and Numbers

The C7 Z06 is the most horsepower per dollar in the Corvette market: 650 supercharged horsepower, a manual or an automatic, a coupe or a convertible, five model years and about 40,000 cars, which keeps prices in used-car territory while the ZR1 above it trades as a collectible. The buying questions are the year, the transmission, Z07 or not, and the car’s heat and wheel history.
The short version: a 2017–19 car for the revised hood and cooling, a manual if you want one (the automatic is quicker and more common), Z07 only if you will use the carbon-ceramic brakes and can afford to replace them, and a car with an owner who can show oil changes and no track overheating. The 2016 C7.R Edition and the 2018 Carbon 65 are the collector cars of the run.
Which C7 Corvette Z06 to Buy
Every model year of the C7 Corvette Z06 with the verdict a buyer needs: what the year brought, which are collected and which are the value.
| YEAR | BUILT | NEW | POWER | THE VERDICT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 8,653 | $78,995 | 650 hp | First year, the cheapest, and the one with the heat-soak complaints; buy one that has had the later updates or that has never seen a track. |
| 2016 | 14,275 | $80,395 | 650 hp | The biggest year (14,275) and the C7.R Edition; the most choice at the lowest prices. |
| 2017 | 7,273 | $80,445 | 650 hp | The revised hood vent and supercharger cover; the first year to buy without the 2015–16 heat caveat. |
| 2018 | 2,802 | $80,490 | 650 hp | Carbon 65 Edition; late-production cars with every update. |
| 2019 | 6,937 | $80,590 | 650 hp | The last year and the final Drivers Series cars; no premium for being last, which makes it the one to buy. |

How to Verify a C7 Corvette Z06
The VIN positions, the labels, the stampings and the parts that prove a C7 Corvette Z06 is what it claims to be, from the year pages, year by year; where a later year repeats an earlier one, only what is new is added.
2015: Verifying a Z06: the VIN has N, P, R, S, T or U in the fifth position, a 6 in the eighth and a 600001-series number, and the service parts label shows LT4, FE6 or FE7, MEK or M5U and 1LZ/2LZ/3LZ. A Z07 car shows Z07, FE7 and J57 with the carbon-ceramic rotors (gray-painted, no rust ring), Cup 2 tires and the adjustable rear wicker and splitter winglets; a Stage 2 or Stage 3 aero car is a Z07 with the dealer or owner-fitted larger winglets, not a separate package. A Stingray with CFZ, the stinger and Z06 wheels is a Stingray, and a ZF1 car has Z51 wheels and spoiler without the package (no dry sump, no eLSD, no coolers).
2016: Verifying a C7.R Edition: the VIN is 1G1YT2D6?G57 or 1G1YU2D6?G57 (or ?3 for the 80 convertibles) followed by 00001 to 00650, the plaque on the dash carries the same number with the seven Le Mans wins and ten championships, and the service parts label shows ZCR, 3LZ, Z07, FE7, J57, CFV, B92, Q9C, J6E, 36S and GC6 or GBA. A yellow Z07 Z06 with black wheels and the stripes added is worth checking against the plaque and the VIN series. A 2016 Z06 has the chrome starter button and, with B92, the visible-weave hood center.
2017: Verifying a Grand Sport: the VIN has a 7 in the eighth position (the Z06’s is a 6) and a 100001-series number, and the service parts label shows Z16 with FE6, G96, Z52, KNR, NPP and a Grand Sport wheel code; the car has the Z06’s wide fenders with the Grand Sport’s fender inserts, the 19 x 10 and 20 x 12-inch Cup-style wheels, six-piston front calipers, a wicker-bill spoiler and no supercharger bulge or hood extractor. A Z07 Grand Sport shows Z07, FE7 and J57, carbon-ceramic rotors and Cup 2 tires. A 2017 Z06 has the revised hood with the larger supercharger-cover vents.
2018: Verifying a Carbon 65: the car is Ceramic Matrix Gray (G9F) with a 3LT Grand Sport or 3LZ Z06 label, Z30 on the service parts label with 198, 37S, J6B, CFV, B92 and Q90 (Grand Sport Cup-style) or Q7Y (Z06 Blade) wheels, blue calipers, the fender stripes and door graphics, Carbon 65 sill plates and center caps, the carbon-rimmed wheel, blue-stitched Competition Sport seats, a blue top on a convertible, and the numbered plaque; the VIN is in the normal 100001 (Grand Sport) or 600001 (Z06) series with a 7 or 6 in the eighth position. A Ceramic Matrix Gray Z06 3LZ with the carbon ground effects and black wheels but no plaque, no blue calipers and no Z30 on the label is an ordinary 2018 (393 Z06 coupes and 92 convertibles were built in the color). A Grand Sport with J57 but not Z07 is a 2018-on combination.
2019: A Hertz Z06 is a Corvette Racing Yellow 2019 Z06 automatic with black stripes, black wheels, yellow calipers, Hertz badging and a centennial plaque, with a rental history in its past. The last C7 (the $2.7 million Z06) and the second-to-last (the museum’s white Stingray) are documented.

The C7 Corvette Z06 Inspection List
What to check on a C7 Corvette Z06 before the money changes hands, from the year pages, with each year adding what is new.
2015: Inspection: the 8L90 on both models — the torque-converter shudder and harsh low-speed shifts that GM addressed with fluid and software, and a car that still does it on a cold morning; the Z06’s heat management on track (early cars pulled timing on hot days, the 2017 hood and cooling changes came later), its supercharger belt and intercooler pump (the 2017 cars got a revised hood and cooling), clutch and flywheel on manuals, Cup 2 tires on Z07 cars that age out and cost more than a set of steel rotors, the carbon-ceramic rotors themselves (measure, not look), Magnetic Ride dampers that leak, cracked wheels from potholes on the 20 x 12 rears, and the torque tube on launched cars. A 3LZ Z07 manual coupe in Shark Gray or Laguna Blue is the 2015 to collect, a 2LZ automatic coupe under $55,000 the Z06 bargain, and a 3LT Z51 Stingray with the PDR under $45,000 the driver’s car.
2016: Inspection: the 8L90 on both models (torque-converter shudder and harsh low-speed shifts, improved by fluid and software but never gone on some cars); the 2016 Z06’s cooling, the last year before the 2017 hood and supercharger-cover revisions, so expect heat-soak stories from track days and check that the car has had its software updates; supercharger belt and intercooler pump, clutch on manuals, Cup 2 tires on Z07 and C7.R cars that age out, the carbon-ceramic rotors (measured), Magnetic Ride dampers, the 20 x 12 rear wheels, and the torque tube on launched cars. A 3LZ Z07 manual Z06 in Corvette Racing Yellow or Long Beach Red the driver’s pick.
2017: Inspection: the 8L90 on all three (shudder and harsh low-speed shifts, improved by fluid and software), the Grand Sport’s dry-sump and cooler plumbing on cars that have been tracked, Magnetic Ride dampers that leak, the 20 x 12 rear wheels on potholed cars, Cup 2 tires on Z07 cars that age out, carbon-ceramic rotors measured not looked at, the clutch on manuals, the carbon roof’s seals and the convertible top, the PDR and MyLink; on the Z06 the 2017 cooling revisions make it the better track car of the four years, but check for the software updates and for heat-soak stories. A 3LT Z07 Grand Sport manual coupe in Admiral Blue or Watkins Glen Gray with the Heritage hash marks is the 2017 to drive.
2018: A Carbon 65 Z06 coupe with the seven-speed (85 built) is the 2018 to collect.

What Goes Wrong: The C7 Corvette Z06’s Known Issues
The faults a C7 Corvette Z06 is known for, the years they affect, what they look like and what the fix is. None of them should stop a purchase; all of them should be on the checklist, and a car with the paperwork for them is the one to buy.
| ISSUE | YEARS | WHAT HAPPENS | THE FIX |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat soak and reduced power | 2015–16 | On track in warm weather the LT4 heat-soaks and the car cuts power to protect itself; four class actions followed. GM changed the hood vent and supercharger cover for 2017. | Ask about track use; many 2015–16 cars have the 2017 parts or aftermarket cooling. A road car rarely sees the problem. |
| 8L90 automatic shudder | 2015–19 | Torque-converter shudder and harsh low-speed shifts. | The updated fluid and software; a converter if that fails. Drive it at 25–45 mph under light throttle on the test drive. |
| Wheel cracking | 2015–19 | The forged wheels bend and crack on bad roads; two class actions. | Inspect every wheel; budget for replacements on a car from pothole country. |
| Supercharger bearing noise | 2015–19 | A whine or rattle from the LT4’s supercharger snout at idle. | Usually the isolator coupler; a specialist job, not an engine problem. |
| Carbon-ceramic rotors (Z07) | 2015–19 | Wear by weight and cost a five-figure sum to replace. | Have them weighed; a Z07 with worn rotors should be priced for it. |
| Transmission clutch and slave (manual) | 2015–19 | Hard-used manuals wear the clutch and the slave cylinder; a high, soft pedal is the sign. | A clutch job is a torque-tube-out job on a C7; price accordingly. |
| Paint and roof | 2015–19 | The clearcoat chips at the nose and the roof panel can rattle or leak. | Check the nose and the panel seals; a clear bra is a plus. |
The C7 Corvette Z06 Options and Editions That Matter
What moves the price of a C7 Corvette Z06 beyond mileage and condition: the packages, the equipment groups and the special editions, and what each does to the value.
MORE: THE SPECIAL EDITIONS / MSRP BY YEAR
| OPTION OR EDITION | WHY IT MATTERS | WHAT IT DOES TO THE PRICE |
|---|---|---|
| Z07 Performance Package | Carbon-ceramic brakes, the Cup 2 tires, the stage-3 aero and the stiffer calibration. | A premium, bigger on low-mileage cars; the rotors’ condition sets how much. |
| Seven-speed manual | The minority choice; the automatic is quicker. | A premium among collectors and in the 3LZ cars; little at the entry level. |
| 3LZ equipment group | The full interior, competition seats, PDR, nav. | Expected on a collector car; 1LZ is the value. |
| C7.R Edition (2016) | 500 built, Corvette Racing Yellow or black, numbered. | Its own Classic.com benchmark well above an ordinary Z06. |
| Carbon 65 Edition (2018) | Ceramic Matrix Gray with the carbon pieces, 650 across Z06 and Grand Sport. | A premium that depends on the mileage. |
| Convertible | The first Z06 convertible since 1963. | Trades level with or a little below the coupe. |
What a C7 Corvette Z06 Costs to Own
Running one costs more than a Stingray in three places: the supercharged LT4 wants Mobil 1 on a dry sump and premium fuel, the 335-section rear tires are expensive and short-lived on a hard-driven car, and the Z07 brakes are the most expensive consumable on any Corvette. Everything else is shared with the rest of the C7 and cheap by sports-car standards; an independent Corvette shop can do all of it.
The C7 Z06 is a used car in the eyes of insurers, so a standard policy works; a C7.R Edition or a delivery-mileage car is worth an agreed-value policy.

Did the C7 Z06 have an overheating problem?
Early 2015–16 cars could go into reduced power after a few hard laps in hot weather; Chevrolet revised the supercharger cover, hood vent and cooling for 2017, and the later cars are the ones to track. The buyer’s guide covers what to check.

What should I check on a C7 Z06?
Track history and overheating on 2015–16 cars, the 8L90’s shudder, every wheel for cracks, the supercharger for bearing noise, the Z07 rotors by weight, the clutch on a manual and the nose for chips. The site’s C7 buyer’s guide has the whole inspection.
