A successor to the ZR-1 made its debut in 2001 as the Z06, giving a nod to the high-performance Z06 version of the C2 Corvette of the 1960s. The Z06 uses a tuned version of the standard LS1 engine (designated the LS6), with a higher power output of 385 hp (390 PS; 287 kW), later bumped to 405 hp (411 PS; 302 kW) starting in 2002.

The Overview
The second Z06 got the engine the first had promised. A new camshaft lifted the valves 0.7 mm further, the valves themselves became hollow-stemmed (sodium-filled exhausts), a low-restriction mass-airflow sensor and air cleaner fed the intake, the two small pup catalytic converters under the manifolds were removed for 16 percent less back-pressure, and the LS6 went from 385 to 405 hp at 6,000 rpm and from 385 to 400 lb-ft at 4,800, matching the ZR-1’s LT5 of 1993–95 in a car 400 pounds lighter. To carry it, the clutch got 7 percent more clamp load, a flange plate thickened from 5 to 6 mm and damper springs in premium alloy wire; the FE4 suspension got revised rear shock valving (firmer on the track, less harsh on the road) and cast-aluminum front stabilizer links; the forged wheels became cast-spun for the same look at lower cost; front brake pads became a more fade-resistant compound; and the Head-Up Display became standard. Chevrolet quoted 3.9 seconds to 60 mph and 12.4 at 116 in the quarter against 4.0 and 12.6 at 114 the year before, and Mike Neal, the ride-and-handling engineer, called the 2002 half a second a lap quicker. Electron Blue replaced Speedway White on the Z06’s five-color chart, the price rose $2,650 to $50,150, and sales rose by 2,524 to 8,297, 23 percent of all Corvettes built.
The coupe and convertible changed little. The in-dash CD radio became standard, with the cassette deck a $100 credit available only alongside the 12-disc changer; the automatic’s transmission-cooler case went from stainless steel to cast aluminum; the Z06’s cast-aluminum stabilizer links went into the Z51 package; and convertibles with the HUD got the Z06’s thinner 4.8-mm windshield, 2.65 pounds lighter than the 5.4-mm glass. Electron Blue Metallic replaced Navy Blue, Dark Bowling Green was dropped, and the magnesium wheels were withdrawn after 114 sets, leaving the polished forged wheels (QF5, $1,200) on 22,597 cars. The LS1 stayed at 350 hp. Prices rose during the year, from $41,005 to $41,450 for the coupe and from $47,530 to $47,975 for the convertible, and the option packages went to $1,700/$1,800 (1SB) and $2,700/$2,600 (1SC); 22,100 of the 27,470 coupes and convertibles had 1SC with the HUD and telescoping column.
The Corvette’s 50th birthday began early. The convertible that paced the 86th Indianapolis 500 on May 26, 2002, driven by actor Jim Caviezel with Joie Chitwood III on the caution laps, wore the Anniversary Red paint and shale interior of the 2003 50th Anniversary Edition with pace-car graphics, the Corvette’s fifth Indy pacing after 1978, 1986, 1995 and 1998; Chevrolet built no replica, offering the decals as a $465 licensed kit instead, and three anniversary prototypes were built during the year. Corvette Racing won GTS at Sebring with Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell and Oliver Gavin, took Le Mans in class for the second year running over 335 laps, and won the inaugural Cadillac Grand Prix in Washington and the Road America 500 on the way to the ALMS title. Production reached 35,767, 14,760 coupes, 12,710 convertibles and 8,297 Z06s, the most of any C5 year. Today the 405-hp Z06 is the C5 to own, $23,000 to $39,000 at auction in 2026 for good cars and $50,000 for a 430-mile one, while the 350-hp coupes and convertibles trade from $10,000 for high-mileage cars to $22,500 for the cleanest.
The 2002 Corvette Story
The 2002 model year showed no signs of slowing down for the C5 Chevy Corvette. While the Z06 had been an unquestionable success in its freshman year, the engineering team behind the flagship Corvette had no intention of allowing last year’s successes to be the measure of the new model year. Likewise, all variants of the Corvette were still being subjected to the same scrutiny and refinements that had already allowed the fifth-generation Corvette to become one of the best Chevrolet's of all time.
The Z06 had become the primary focal point for most of the engineering advances made to the Corvette in 2002. Perhaps because the coupe and convertible had already been refined during the first several years of its production run, the evolution of the C5 line as a whole now seemed to be centered around advances being made around the Z06 – and it was a decision that GM was certain would pay off.
That's not to say that the coupe and convertible were not to receive any improvements for the 2002 model year. Minor changes were introduced which included the introduction of an in-dash AM/FM/CD player which was now standard on both coupes and convertibles except in those instances when the car was sold with the optional 12-disc CD changer. In such instances, the factory installed stereo head unit would continue to include the AM/FM/cassette unit.
For those Corvettes equipped with an automatic transmission, they would receive a lighter-weight transmission cooler case that was now manufactured out of cast aluminum instead of stainless steel. Lastly, the cast-aluminum stabilizer links added to the Z06 in 2001 were now included with the optional Z51 Performance Handling package.
To help with weight-savings, all 2002 Corvette Convertibles equipped with a Heads Up Display (HUD) received a slightly thinner, 4.8mm thick windshield (as compared to the 5.4 mm that had been standard on all Corvettes prior to 2002). This thinner windshield would provide a weight savings of 2.65 lbs per car.
While some consideration was given as to whether or not the thinner windshield could withstand the additional wind/drive forces it was subjected to, it was ultimately approved that it should be included as a standard option on all Z06s that year as well. All base model coupes and convertibles not equipped with a HUD were still issued the standard 5.4 mm windshield.
For 2002, the Z06's 5.7-liter LS6 engine would receive an additional 20 horsepower, bringing the output of the small-block Chevy V-8 up to a robust 405 brake-horsepower. Additionally, torque was also increased by another 15 lb-ft, and was now rated at 400 lb-ft at 4,800rpm. These performance improvements occurred as the result of a new cam profile that allowed the engine’s intake and exhaust valves to open 0.7 mm further than before.
By giving the engine the ability to breathe more freely, and by introducing some lower restriction components including hollow-stem valves, a low-restriction air cleaner, and a low-restriction mass-airflow sensor, the LS6 engine now matched the rated output of the highest-powered LT5 engine found in the C4 's ZR-1 Corvette. Better still, given its power-to weight ratio, the Z06 was actually faster than the ZR-1.
The increased horsepower and torque of the improved LS6 equipped Z06 was significant enough that it allowed GM to make some pretty impressive claims about its newest Corvette. While the aforementioned ZR-1 Corvette, in its best years, was capable of 0-60 times in 4.5 seconds, Chevrolet claimed that the Z06 Corvette could now produce 0-60 times of just 3.9 seconds. Likewise, while the ZR-1 maintained an average quarter mile time of 12.8 seconds at 111 mph, the newer Z06 could run the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 116 mph.
Of course, producing the level of power that the new LS6 equipped Z06 was now capable of would require modifications to other areas of the car. To withstand the additional engine torque, the Z06 received a redesigned clutch. The modifications to the existing clutch included the use of premium alloy wire during fabrication of the damper springs and the design of the damper springs were actually changed to increase the clutch wind-up rate. Lastly, the clutch disc’s flange plate was made 20 percent thicker. In all, these improvements would provide drivers improved overall performance and added durability to the clutch.
Did you know? Corvette's Golden Anniversary celebration actually began in April 2002 with word that the pace car slated to run at the Indianapolis 500 was actually a preview model of the 2003 Corvette convertible.
Film star Jim Caviezel (The Count of Monte Cristo, later The Passion of the Christ) would pilot the C5 pace car for the 86th running of the famous Memorial Day weekend race, and the overall reaction to the Corvette was positive.
Pleased by the fan reactions, GM announced that the Corvette pace car was virtually identical to a 50th Anniversary Edition package, though the pace car featured far more graphics than the production variant of the car would.
The Z06's FE4 suspension also received several minor improvements for the 2002 model year. Among these was the introduction of revised rear-shock damper valving which provided improved handling on the track and produced less rigid handling during normal driving conditions. Lighter-weight cast-aluminum stabilizer links (which replaced the previously used rolled rod steel links) were introduced as a weight saving measure.
When combined with the newly designed cast-spun wheels (which replaced the previous forged aluminum wheel set), a weight reduction of nearly two pounds was achieved. While such a small difference in the overall weight might not be considered noteworthy by some, a two pound weight reduction is significant when developing any vehicle whose primary purpose is out-running previously established performance records.
The smaller two of the Z06's four catalytic converters were also removed to provide a 16 percent reduction in back pressure as well as providing additional weight savings. In addition to the performance and handling upgrades that the Z06 Corvette received, new higher-performance brake pads were introduced up front for improved brake lining durability and increased resistance to high performance brake fade.
Cosmetically, virtually nothing changed on the Z06 coupe. Chevrolet did decide to make the (formerly-optional) Heads-Up-Display standard on all 2002 Z06 Corvettes. This, combined with the many mechanical and suspension-related improvements, resulted in a significant price increase of $2,650 for the 2002 Z06.
Still, even with a price tag that was just a few dollars away from $50,000, sales remained strong. Sales also remained strong for both the coupe and convertible Corvettes. For 2002, the prices increased to $41,450 for a coupe, $47,975 for a convertible, and $50,150 for a Z06 (the launch figures were $445 lower; prices rose during the year).
While the luster of the Z06's performance numbers attracted automotive enthusiasts into Chevrolet showrooms, an equally impressive racing season helped to further catapult the Corvette's reputation of being a world class sports car.
The 2002 C5-R driven by Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell, and Oliver Gavin earned Corvette a GTS class victory at the 2002 running of the 12 Hours of Sebring. Later that season, Corvette would dominate its class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for its second straight year, completing 335 laps around the legendary race circuit.
Fellows and O'Connell would achieve further victory that season when they placed first in class at the inaugural running of the Cadillac Grand Prix (located in Washington D.C.), and also placing first in class (and fifth overall) at the Road America 500 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Beyond being a serious contender on the race track, the 2002 Corvette was once again bestowed with the honor of being the official pace car at the 2002 running of the Indianapolis 500. On May 26, 2002, the Chevy Corvette led the open-wheel race cars around all of the inaugural laps of the Indy 500, representing Corvette's fifth appearance at the historic racing event.
Interestingly, this running of the 500 would be dominated by Chevrolet – fourteen out of the fifteen cars to finish at the 500 were powered by Chevrolet engines – including the top three racing contenders. Interestingly, GM decided against building a production version of the 2002 pace car. The primary reason for this was that the 2003 model year would represent the fiftieth anniversary of the Corvette, and GM wanted to celebrate the landmark event with a special 50th anniversary model.
Additionally, the 2002 Corvette Pace Car actually featured a paint and interior color scheme that was nearly identical to the planned special edition Corvette color scheme. To that end, three prototypes of the fiftieth anniversary Corvette were built during the 2002 model year, allowing designers and GM management the opportunity to refine their design well in advance of the arrival of 2003 Corvette.

The 2002 Z06 was the first Corvette to out-accelerate the C4 ZR-1 on paper and the first since 1971 to make 400 lb-ft: Chevrolet’s 3.9-second 0–60 claim beat the ZR-1’s 4.5, and the 405 hp matched the 1993–95 LT5 exactly, from two fewer camshafts and 16 fewer valves. The LS6’s extra power came partly from subtraction: removing the two small catalytic converters saved weight and back-pressure, and the hollow-stem valves cut 368 grams from the valvetrain. Chevrolet also saved 2.65 pounds a car with the thinner windshield, and 0.44 pound with aluminum stabilizer links; the engineers counted everything.

2002 Corvette Z06
The 405-horsepower year. The LS6 gained a camshaft with 0.7 mm more lift, hollow-stem intake and sodium-filled exhaust valves, a low-restriction mass-airflow sensor and air cleaner and lost its two pup catalytic converters, for 405 hp at 6,000 rpm and 400 lb-ft at 4,800, the output of the C4 ZR-1’s LT5 in a car 400 pounds lighter; the clutch gained 7 percent clamp load and a thicker flange plate, the FE4 suspension revised rear shocks and cast-aluminum stabilizer links, the wheels went from forged to cast-spun, the front pads to a fade-resistant compound and the Head-Up Display became standard, with Electron Blue replacing Speedway White on the five-color chart. Chevrolet quoted 3.9 seconds to 60 mph, 12.4 at 116 in the quarter and 1.0 g for $50,150 (up $2,650), and 8,297 were sold, 1,467 Quicksilver, 1,814 Electron Blue, 2,205 Black, 1,746 Torch Red and 1,065 Millennium Yellow. In 2026 documented cars sold for $23,000 to $39,000 at auction and $50,000 for a 430-mile example.

Specifications & Performance
Engine & Transmission
The LS1 (VIN G) was unchanged at 350 hp at 5,200 rpm and 375 lb-ft at 4,400 with the six-speed or 360 at 4,000 with the automatic, 346 cubic inches at 10.1:1 on 91-octane with a 6,000-rpm redline.
The LS6 (VIN S, Z06 only) went to 405 hp at 6,000 rpm and 400 lb-ft at 4,800 with a camshaft of 0.7 mm more lift, hollow-stem intake valves and sodium-filled hollow exhaust valves that cut 368 grams from the valvetrain, a low-restriction mass-airflow sensor and air cleaner, and the two pup catalytic converters deleted (the under-floor converters recalibrated to keep NLEV certification), at 10.5:1 with a 6,500-rpm redline.
Both were built at St. Catharines. Coupes and convertibles took the 4L60-E automatic (3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.70), its cooler case now cast aluminum, on a 2.73:1 axle or the $300 3.15:1, or the $815 T56 six-speed (2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.00, 0.74, 0.50) on a 3.42:1; the Z06’s M12 (2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, 0.84, 0.56) drove the 3.42:1 through a clutch with 7 percent more clamp load, a 6-mm flange plate and alloy-wire damper springs.
EPA figures were 18/25 mpg automatic and 19/28 for both six-speeds.
The Z06’s FE4 suspension got revised rear shock valving and cast-aluminum front stabilizer links (0.44 pound lighter), and its wheels, 17 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5 inches, were now cast-spun rather than forged, on Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar P265/40ZR17 and P295/35ZR18 asymmetric tires with the inflator kit in place of a spare; a more fade-resistant front pad went into the 12.8-inch front / 12.0-inch rear Bosch ABS brakes, and the thinner 4.8-mm windshield, 2.65 pounds lighter, was shared with HUD-equipped convertibles.
The coupe and convertible kept FE1, Z51 (now with the aluminum links) or F45 on 17 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 wheels with P245/45ZR17 and P275/40ZR18 Eagle F1 GS run-flats, with Active Handling standard on every car. GM gave 3,246 pounds for the coupe, 3,248 for the convertible and 3,118 for the Z06 (53/47 front/rear), a 40.2-foot turning circle and an 18.5-gallon tank.
Chevrolet’s Z06 figures were 3.9 seconds to 60 mph, 12.4 at 116 mph in the quarter, 171 mph and 1.0 g; the 350-hp cars kept their 2001 numbers, about 4.8 seconds to 60 and 13.1 in the quarter with the six-speed.

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN)
35,767 (14,760 coupes + 12,710 convertibles + 8,297 Z06 hardtops) Cars, 1G1YY?2??25100001 TO 1G1YY?2??25135763 (coupes 1G1YY22G…, convertibles 1G1YY32G…, Z06 1G1YY12S…; one shared sequence)
The 2002 VIN reads 1G1YY22G?251xxxxx for a coupe, 1G1YY32G?251xxxxx for a convertible and 1G1YY12S?251xxxxx for a Z06: 1 for the United States, G for General Motors, 1 for Chevrolet, Y for the Corvette car line, Y for the Corvette series, the body in the sixth position (1 Z06 hardtop, 2 coupe, 3 convertible), 2 for active manual belts with driver and passenger airbags, the engine in the eighth (G for the 350-hp LS1, S for the 405-hp LS6), a check digit in the ninth, 2 for the 2002 model year and 5 for Bowling Green, Kentucky. All three bodies share one sequence from 100001 to 135763, with the pilot and prototype cars numbered inside the series; the official total is 35,767, four more than the sequence holds. Export cars carry the VIN on the frame rail rather than a dash plate.
The engine carries a partial VIN on the rear of the left cylinder head or the front of the left oil-pan rail and the transmissions a VIN derivative; the 2002 LS6 is distinguished from the 2001 by its hollow-stem valves and the absence of the pup converters on the exhaust manifolds. The VIN plate sits on the left windshield pillar, repeated on the driver’s door certification label and the console service parts label, which lists every RPO: a Z06 shows 1YY37, LS6, M12 and FE4; a coupe or convertible its package (1SB or 1SC), MM6 or M30, F45 or Z51, QF5 and 79U or 86U. Paint codes are 11, 12, 21, 40, 41, 70, 79 and 86; interior trims 19I black, 92I light gray, 67I light oak and 70I Torch Red; convertible tops 41T black, 67T light oak and 16T white.

Market & Buying Guide
For Sale & What They Bring
The 2002 Z06 is the C5 the market wants: the first 405-hp car, with the 2001’s valve-spring and clutch weaknesses addressed, the HUD standard and the red engine cover the 2003–04 cars gave up, and 8,297 of them, so there is choice. It trades a little above a 2001 and about level with a 2003–04 Z06 of the same mileage, with the lowest-mileage cars and the Electron Blue and Millennium Yellow examples at the top; originality counts, because a great many have the usual cam, headers and cat-back, and the cast-spun wheels crack where the forged 2001 wheels did not. The 350-hp coupes and convertibles are the best-equipped LS1 C5s, 1SC on most, and sit with the 2001s and 2003s, priced by the six-speed, the convertible, F45 or Z51, the polished wheels and mileage; the 2002 is the last year before the Magnetic Ride and the 50th-anniversary premium muddy the comparison.
Classic.com results from November 2025 to October 2026, with the Z06 benchmark at about $28,500. Z06: Bring a Trailer sold a 430-mile car for $50,000 in October 2026, a 38,000-mile car for $39,000 and a 12,000-mile car for $31,500 the same month, a 55,000-mile car for $36,501 in April, a 36,000-mile car for $32,250 and a 119,000-mile car for $28,501 in September, a 42,000-mile car for $28,000 in May, an 18,000-mile car for $27,759 in March, 50,000- and 60,000-mile cars for $26,000 and $23,000 in May and June, a 13,000-mile car for $24,600 in September and a 60,000-mile car for $20,250 in October; Mecum Fort Worth sold a 31,000-mile car for $36,300 in October and Cars & Bids a 111,000-mile car for $18,000 in February. No-sales were bid to $27,250 (Hagerty) and $20,300 (Cars & Bids); dealers asked $26,494 to $45,995. Coupes and convertibles: Bring a Trailer sold a 14,000-mile automatic for $22,500 and a 39,000-mile automatic for $20,750 in September, Cars & Bids a 23,000-mile six-speed for $20,000 in January and 22,000-mile automatics for $17,500 in November 2025, Mecum a 22,000-mile automatic for $19,800 in November 2025 and a 36,000-mile car for $17,050 in October 2026, Bring a Trailer a 40,000-mile car for $17,500 in February; 85,000- to 126,000-mile cars brought $9,500 to $10,450 at GAA, Mecum and Hagerty. An 8,000-mile automatic was bid to $22,000 at Mecum Kissimmee without selling; dealers asked $12,000 to $31,000. Auction figures are hammer prices; add the buyer’s premium when comparing with asking prices.
Verifying a 2002 Z06: an S in the eighth VIN position with a 2 in the tenth, 1YY37, LS6, M12 and FE4 on the console label, the HUD (standard this year), cast-spun wheels (the 2001’s were forged), red calipers and engine cover, rear brake scoops, mesh grilles and no pup converters on the exhaust manifolds; Electron Blue, Quicksilver, Black, Torch Red or Millennium Yellow only. On a coupe or convertible the label settles the package, transmission, suspension, wheels and the $600 paints, and the Anniversary-look pace-car graphics seen on some 2002 convertibles are the $465 licensed decal kit, not a factory package; Chevrolet built no 2002 pace-car replica. Build sheets and window stickers are common on low-mileage cars.
The inspection list is the C5’s plus the Z06’s. All cars: the electronic column lock (recall 04V060) and its bypass, the EBCM and wheel-speed sensors behind ABS and Active Handling lights, the harmonic balancer, rocker bearings, warped rotors, fuel senders, window regulators, headlight bezel plugs, roof-panel creaks and seat bolsters. Z06: the 2002 valve springs are the stronger type, but the sodium-filled exhaust valves and their guides are the LS6’s known weak point on abused engines, the cast-spun wheels crack on potholes and are often replaced with 2001 forged or aftermarket wheels, the Supercar tires are expensive, the titanium exhaust is easily damaged, and track use shows in the clutch, the torque-tube coupler and the differential. A 2002 Z06 with its paperwork, its wheels and an unmodified LS6 is the C5 most buyers should be looking for; a 350-hp six-speed with 1SC is the LS1 car at its best.

How much is a 2002 Corvette worth today?
Between November 2025 and October 2026, Classic.com tracked 2002 Z06s selling from $18,000 (111,000 miles) to $50,000 (a 430-mile car), with most clean cars between $26,000 and $36,500, a benchmark of about $28,500 and dealers asking $26,500 to $46,000. Standard 2002 coupes and convertibles sold from $9,500 for high-mileage cars to $22,500 for a 14,000-mile automatic, most between $17,000 and $21,000, with dealers asking $12,000 to $31,000. For a Z06, mileage, originality and color set the price; for the others, the six-speed, the convertible and the package.
What engine did the 2002 Corvette have?
The coupe and convertible kept the 350-hp LS1 (375 lb-ft with the six-speed, 360 with the automatic). The Z06’s LS6 rose to 405 hp at 6,000 rpm and 400 lb-ft at 4,800: a camshaft with 0.7 mm more lift, hollow-stem intake and sodium-filled exhaust valves, a low-restriction mass-airflow sensor and air cleaner and the removal of the two pup catalytic converters, at 10.5:1 with a 6,500-rpm redline, matching the output of the 1993–95 ZR-1’s LT5. Both engines were built at St. Catharines, Ontario; the Z06 came only with the close-ratio M12 six-speed behind a strengthened clutch.
What colors did the 2002 Corvette come in?
Eight: Black (7,129), Torch Red (6,862), Electron Blue Metallic (5,407, new, replacing Navy Blue), Quicksilver (4,618), Millennium Yellow (4,040, a $600 tint-coat), Magnetic Red (3,298, $600), Light Pewter (2,650) and Speedway White (1,763); Dark Bowling Green was dropped. The Z06 came in Black, Electron Blue, Torch Red, Quicksilver and Millennium Yellow with black or black-and-Torch-Red leather; the other bodies had Black, Light Gray, Light Oak or Torch Red interiors, and convertible tops were Black, Light Oak or White.
How much did the 2002 Corvette cost when new?
$41,450 for the coupe, $47,975 for the convertible and $50,150 for the Z06 at the end of the model year; all three had opened $445 lower ($41,005, $47,530 and $49,705). The 1SB package was $1,700 (coupe) or $1,800 (convertible) and 1SC $2,700 or $2,600; Real Time Damping $1,695, the dual-roof package $1,200, polished wheels $1,200, the six-speed $815, the glass roof $750, the CD changer $600, Millennium Yellow or Magnetic Red paint $600, the museum delivery $490, the Z51 package $350, the performance axle $300, magnesium wheels $1,500, memory $150 and electrochromic mirrors $120 on the Z06.
What is a 2002 Corvette Z06?
The second C5 Z06 and the first with 405 hp: the hardtop body with the LS6 uprated by a higher-lift cam, hollow-stem valves, a freer intake and the deletion of its pup converters to 405 hp and 400 lb-ft, the close-ratio M12 six-speed behind a clutch with 7 percent more clamp load, FE4 suspension with revised rear shocks and cast-aluminum stabilizer links, cast-spun 17 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5-inch wheels on Eagle F1 Supercar tires, a titanium exhaust, fade-resistant front pads, a thinner windshield and a standard Head-Up Display, at 3,118 pounds and $50,150. Chevrolet quoted 3.9 seconds to 60 mph and 12.4 at 116 in the quarter; 8,297 were built in five colors, Electron Blue replacing Speedway White, and the VIN carries a 1 in the sixth position and an S in the eighth.
What changed on the 2002 Corvette?
The Z06 went to 405 hp with a stronger clutch, revised shocks, aluminum stabilizer links, cast-spun wheels, better front pads and a standard HUD; the coupe and convertible got a standard in-dash CD radio, a cast-aluminum automatic-transmission cooler case, aluminum stabilizer links in the Z51 package and, on HUD convertibles, the thinner windshield; Electron Blue replaced Navy Blue, Dark Bowling Green was dropped and the magnesium wheels were withdrawn; prices rose during the year. The 50th-anniversary convertible paced the Indianapolis 500 with no replica offered, and Corvette Racing won Le Mans in class for the second year.
