The sixth-generation Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has long been recognized for its naturally aspirated LS7 V8 and impressive performance capabilities. However, O’Neal’s heavily modified C6 Z06, featured by Autotopia LA, takes the platform in an entirely different direction. Built specifically for high-speed highway performance, this distinctive street-driven Corvette combines an enormous single-turbocharger system, a heavily reinforced drivetrain, and unconventional gearing to deliver an estimated 1,300 horsepower on its lowest boost setting.

Massive Turbocharged LS7 Powertrain

At the center of the build is a 427-cubic-inch LS-based V8 featuring upgraded connecting rods and pistons, AFR cylinder heads, and a Holley intake manifold. Rather than pursuing an extensively re-engineered engine configuration, the build focuses on forced induction, with its most prominent component being a Garrett G57 3000 turbocharger. Featuring a 106/122mm inducer configuration and a 140mm turbine housing, it is among Garrett’s largest offerings and is designed for extreme horsepower applications.

Supporting hardware includes a six-inch intercooler, four-inch intercooler piping, twin 66mm Precision wastegates, 2,600cc fuel injectors, and a high-capacity brushless Aeromotive fuel pump. Engine management is handled by a Holley Dominator system, while PTFE fuel lines and AN fittings provide a serviceable, leak-resistant installation.

At approximately 15 psi of boost, the current engine configuration produces around 1,300 horsepower. The owner and builder have discussed a future engine upgrade intended to support a substantially higher output, with the overall turbo system designed around the potential for more than 3,000 horsepower.

Manual Transmission and Highway-Specific Gearing

Unlike many high-horsepower highway builds that rely on automatic transmissions, this Corvette retains a six-speed manual configuration. An RPM-built transmission, triple-disc clutch, lightweight flywheel, and upgraded rear differential support the considerable power output.

Its custom gear ratios prioritize high-speed acceleration rather than conventional drag-strip launches. Second gear reportedly reaches approximately 120 mph, third extends beyond 180 mph, and fourth exceeds 200 mph. This makes the Corvette considerably less suited to stoplight acceleration but exceptionally specialized for highway rolling performance.

Purpose-Built Exterior and Driving Experience

Visually, the Corvette retains its original bodywork, complemented by carbon-fiber side skirts, a front splitter, Weld wheels, and a prominent rear wing. A parachute provides additional stopping capability during high-speed runs, while Mickey Thompson ET Street R rear tires measure 325 millimeters. Inside, the factory seats and much of the original dashboard remain, preserving a relatively familiar C6 cabin. However, traction control has been eliminated, leaving power delivery entirely dependent on driver input.

During the Autotopia LA feature, initial tuning and temperature-related issues briefly interrupted filming before the team resolved the problem. Subsequent acceleration runs demonstrated the car’s extraordinary performance, even on its lowest boost setting. Ultimately, this C6 Z06 is not a conventional track-focused Corvette. It is a highly specialized manual-transmission highway machine, combining enormous turbocharged power with deliberately tall gearing and an uncompromising driving experience.
