The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport marks the return of one of the most recognizable performance formulas in Corvette history: combining the widebody presence and track-focused hardware of the Z06 with a more accessible, traditional V8 powertrain. Reviewed by Jakub of TheStraightPipes, the latest C8 Grand Sport makes a compelling case as the sweet spot in Chevrolet’s mid-engine sports car lineup.

Power comes from an all-new 6.7-liter LS6 naturally aspirated V8 producing 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Z06’s high-revving, flat-plane-crank LT6, the LS6 uses a traditional cross-plane configuration, delivering a deeper exhaust note and stronger emphasis on low- and mid-range torque. Its 13:1 compression ratio contributes to an engaging soundtrack, with pronounced burbles, crackles and crisp exhaust responses during downshifts and acceleration.

Power is delivered through Chevrolet’s Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Shifts are quick and smooth, while the transmission remains well suited to everyday driving. The Grand Sport’s character is particularly impressive in this respect, offering strong performance without sacrificing refinement.

Track Capability Without Everyday Compromises

The reviewed example features the Z52 Performance Package, optional carbon-fiber aerodynamic components, a prominent rear wing and carbon-ceramic brakes. Despite its aggressive track-oriented specification and large forged wheels, the suspension remains surprisingly compliant. Even in its firmer settings, the Grand Sport maintains sufficient comfort for regular road use, while Tour mode transforms it into a quieter, more relaxed cruiser.

The updated C8 interior also brings meaningful improvements in usability. The redesigned dashboard replaces the previous button-heavy center console with a cleaner arrangement, while the revised climate controls, drive-mode selector and Google built-in integration improve accessibility. The optional GT2 carbon-fiber seats provide substantial support without compromising long-distance comfort. A front-axle lift system further enhances everyday practicality.

Pricing and the Competition

The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport starts at $97,750 in the United States. However, the heavily optioned review vehicle carries a $132,765 price tag, including $9,000 for the carbon-fiber aerodynamic package, $6,000 for carbon-ceramic brakes and $3,500 for the Z52 Performance Package.

Its positioning creates an interesting alternative to the C8 Corvette Stingray and Z06, as well as the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and upcoming Dark Horse SC. While the Z06 offers a more exotic, high-revving experience, the Grand Sport prioritizes accessible torque, traditional V8 character and everyday usability. Dodge, meanwhile, currently has little to offer in this particular naturally aspirated American sports-car category.

Ultimately, the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport demonstrates that maximum horsepower and exotic engine technology aren’t necessarily the ingredients of the most satisfying sports car. With its 535-hp LS6, widebody styling, track-ready hardware and genuine daily-driving comfort, it makes a convincing argument for being the most balanced Corvette in the C8 lineup.
