Corvette Of The Day: 1956 Chevrolet Corvette 265/240

The 1956 model year marked a major development for the Corvette. Although the V8 engine introduced in 1955 had enhanced performance, it still lacked features that American consumers sought. Chevrolet tackled this with a complete redesign by Bob Cadaret in 1956.

The redesigned body featured chrome accents and unique side coves inspired by Cadillac’s 1955 Motorama LaSalle II, allowing for eye-catching two-tone paint schemes. Improvements included glass roll-up side windows, a redesigned convertible top, and external door handles.

Options available included a signal-seeking partially transistorized Delco radio, a 3-speed manual transmission or 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, power windows, a power convertible top, and a removable hardtop. The 265 CI V8 engine produced between 210 and 240 HP.
