Chevrolet appears to be pushing the C8 Corvette Stingray into a new performance era with the introduction of an all-new 6.7-liter LS6 V8. Since the mid-engine Stingray debuted for the 2020 model year, Chevrolet has continually expanded and refined the platform, adding increasingly capable variants while keeping the standard Corvette relevant. The latest update suggests that philosophy is continuing.
The biggest change is the engine. Replacing the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2, the new LS6 is described as a ground-up small-block design sharing fewer than 30 part numbers with its predecessor. Displacement increases by 500 cc to 6.7 liters, while output rises to 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. A longer stroke, a larger 95-mm throttle body and a substantially higher 13:1 compression ratio contribute to the additional performance.
Chevrolet has also revised the fuel-delivery system, combining direct and port injection. Beyond its engineering benefits, the change gives the Stingray a more pronounced character. The new Corvette reportedly delivers stronger low-end torque and a deeper, more aggressive exhaust note, addressing criticism that the previous LT2-powered car lacked the traditional Corvette bark and distinctive idle.
Performance has consequently moved into serious supercar territory. The updated Stingray is claimed to reach 60 mph in approximately 2.7 seconds and achieve a 200-mph top speed. Yet Chevrolet has retained the Corvette’s everyday usability, with available heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, digital instrumentation and more than 12 cubic feet of combined front and rear storage in the coupe.
Inside, the cabin receives a 12.7-inch display and a revised control layout. Chevrolet has eliminated the controversial vertical button row found in early C8 models while retaining physical controls for important functions. A configurable driver information display, metal paddle shifters, wireless charging and optional front-axle lift further reinforce the Stingray’s blend of performance and practicality.
Pricing starts around $73,000, while a well-equipped 3LT example with the Z51 performance package can reach the low-$90,000 range. At that level, the 2027 Stingray offers acceleration once associated with exotic machinery, combined with extensive customization and genuine daily-driver practicality.
