FOR SALE: 1991 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Callaway SuperNatural 490 CR-1

Converted into CR-1 specification by Callaway

Now offered for sale on Bring a Trailer, this highly customized 1991 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 represents one of the most comprehensive performance transformations ever undertaken by Callaway Engineering of Old Lyme, Connecticut. Originally delivered as a factory ZR-1, the car was subsequently converted into a rare Callaway CR-1 and reportedly equipped with every available enhancement offered by the renowned tuner at the time.

The exterior was extensively reworked with Callaway’s fiberglass aerobody package, featuring a redesigned front fascia, grille, rear panel, fender vents, and quarter-panel ducting. Complementing the aggressive styling is a striking repaint in Ferrari’s iconic Rosso Corsa finish.

The chassis was upgraded with a Callaway coilover suspension system, while stopping power comes from Brembo brake calipers paired with cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. Lightweight 17-inch Callaway Dymag magnesium wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires further enhance the car’s performance credentials.

Inside, the Corvette showcases a distinctive speedster-inspired cockpit trimmed in luxurious Connolly Pecan leather. Red CR-1 embroidery accents the seats, while a leather-covered roll bar, installed in 1999, blends seamlessly with the cabin. Additional highlights include a Bose Gold audio system and a Callaway center-console plaque bearing the signatures of Reeves Callaway and former Corvette chief engineer Dave McLellan.

Power comes from the legendary all-aluminum 5.7-liter LT5 DOHC V8, upgraded with Callaway’s coveted SuperNatural 490 package for substantially increased output. The engine is paired with a ZF six-speed manual transmission featuring a lightweight flywheel, while a performance-oriented 3.92 rear differential and Callaway Double-D exhaust system complete the drivetrain enhancements.
