FOR SALE: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe Restomod
Equipped with 6.2-liter LS3 crate V8
This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Resto Mod currently up for auction on Bring A Trailer is a remarkable demonstration of design, engineering, and execution. It skillfully blends the timeless body style of the split-window Corvette with modern technology.
The fiberglass body was refurbished in 2014, receiving an Anthracite Gray Pearl repaint, and now rests on a Coffman C2 Performance chassis. Notable features include the distinctive split rear window, flip-up headlamps, fender vents, tinted windows, quad tail lamps, split chrome bumpers, and side-exit exhaust outlets.
This Resto Mod rides on chrome-finished 18″ and 19″ Spyder-style wheels, wrapped in staggered-width Nitto Performance redline tires. Its suspension incorporates Corvette C5 front and C6 rear components, complemented by Strange Engineering coilover shocks. Braking prowess is provided by red-finished Corvette Z06-sourced six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, coupled with drilled and slotted rotors and a Wilwood master cylinder.
Inside, the refreshed interior boasts a three-spoke Billet Specialities steering wheel, bolstered high-back seats adorned in red leather, and a color-coordinated dashboard, headliner, carpeting, and door panels. Creature comforts include an analog clock, lap belts, VintageAir climate control, and a RetroSound stereo.
Under the hood lies a 6.2-liter LS3 crate V8, installed by the American Speed Shop of Bloomington, Indiana, in 2014. The engine is equipped with an aluminum radiator, an open-element air filter, and polished alternator, air conditioning compressor, and engine covers. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.
Bill Mitchell’s classic 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Split Window coupe remains widely sought after as a subject for Resto Modding. This example highlights the abundance of options one has in shaping the final form of a project, whether it involves later-generation Corvettes or the growing aftermarket.
