WD Detailing recently tackled one of its most meaningful restoration projects yet: reviving a 1990 Chevrolet C4 Corvette that had been abandoned inside a barn for nearly 20 years. More than a routine detailing job, the project centered on preserving a car filled with sentimental value, as it had once belonged to the late wife of its current owner, Joe.

The Corvette, equipped with a desirable six-speed manual transmission and Chevrolet’s 5.7-liter L98 V8, had deteriorated after decades of inactivity. Layers of dirt, animal waste, oxidation, and rodent infestations had transformed the once-sporty coupe into a neglected shell. Despite its condition, the detailing team believed the classic C4 deserved a second chance.

The restoration followed a comprehensive three-stage process. Work began with an intensive exterior decontamination, including pre-washing, clay-bar treatment, wheel cleaning, and paint correction. Years of oxidation and deep scratches were removed through a multi-stage polishing process using rotary and dual-action polishers, dramatically restoring the Corvette’s original gloss and finish.

Attention then shifted to the heavily contaminated interior, where years of rodent activity had left nests, stains, and biological residue throughout the cabin. The team thoroughly vacuumed, disinfected, extracted the carpets, eliminated stubborn rust stains, and restored the dashboard, upholstery, and trim, transforming one of the vehicle’s most neglected areas into a clean, presentable cockpit.

With the cosmetic restoration complete, the final challenge was mechanical. After installing a fresh battery, draining the two-decade-old gasoline, inspecting the fluids, and confirming ignition spark, the L98 V8 fired back to life with minimal intervention—a testament to the durability of Chevrolet’s classic small-block engine.

The planned reveal was briefly delayed when Joe was hospitalized with serious health issues. Once he recovered, the WD Detailing team surprised him with the fully restored Corvette and a signed Jimmy Buffett guitar, creating an emotional reunion with a car that carried cherished memories of his late wife. The restoration ultimately became more than a detailing success—it was a heartfelt tribute that preserved both an American sports car and the personal history it represented.
