The C8 Corvette is the most advanced and revolutionary generation to roll off the Bowling Green Assembly line, and one of the most popular to date, but unfortunately, some issues come with those accolades. I’ve curated information from around the internet, so our faithful CorvSport community can be aware of what to possibly expect if you own or acquire one of these beautiful eighth-generation Corvettes.

Common Issues and Failures

This June 2023 “Tech Tuesday” Youtube video below from Corvette enthusiast, expert, and salesperson Rick Conti highlights two significant issues.

1) DCT Transmission Issues

This quote directly from Rick sums up the quirks of the Tremec TR9080 DCT transmission (at 7:15):

I don’t feel like, (and it’s really starting to piss me off), that my transmission is what I had in my ’21… It doesn’t seem as smooth, it doesn’t seem as responsive

Twice during a recent road trip, Rick was accelerating normally up a hill and his C8 got “hung up” in gear, and as it approached the redline he had to use the paddle to manually shift gears.

The Remedies: The dealer will usually reflash the transmission’s computer (depending on what code is present) and/or add approximately 2 quarts of fluid. Transmission flushes are also common procedures the dealer will perform.

2) Ticking Noise from LT2 Engine

At 9:18 in the same video, the GM technician who works with Rick goes into detail on the June 1st Bulletin from GM regarding a ticking noise from the base LT2 engine. This is a lifter noise that usually occurs during cold starts, and the technician makes sure to point out that this sound is different from the normal ticking-type noises that originate from the high-pressure fuel pump and direct injection fuel injectors.

3) LT6 Issues and Failures

Recently I did an up-to-date article (with videos) on the issues and failures the C8 Z06 LT6 is experiencing, and you can click here to read it.
