The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette C8 introduces a dedicated factory Burnout Assist feature, simplifying tire warm-up procedures for drag racing while eliminating the more complicated techniques owners previously relied on. Paragon Performance recently demonstrated how the system operates, highlighting the precise inputs required to activate the feature safely and consistently.

Unlike earlier C8 models, where drivers often performed a paddle-shift sequence combined with careful throttle modulation to initiate a burnout, the new system integrates the process into the vehicle’s electronic controls. Activation begins by applying approximately 50% brake pressure, pulling both shift paddles simultaneously, releasing one paddle, and then pulling it again. Once a green gear indicator appears on the digital instrument cluster, the system is armed.

With the brake pressure maintained, the driver applies full throttle. During this stage, the Corvette’s electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) coupling should rise to approximately 70%, which serves as confirmation that Burnout Assist is fully engaged. Releasing the shift paddles then allows the rear tires to spin while the driver carefully modulates brake pressure. Excessive braking—roughly above 80% pedal pressure—will activate the anti-lock braking system (ABS), immediately canceling the burnout and requiring the activation process to be repeated.

For drivers using manual gear selection, Paragon Performance recommends shifting into second gear almost immediately during the burnout, with third gear potentially usable depending on track conditions and tire setup. All testing was conducted using PTM Pro, the Performance Traction Management mode selected via the control panel to the left of the steering wheel. While other PTM modes may also support the feature, only PTM Pro has been verified.

The demonstration was performed on a Grand Sport equipped with narrower Stingray rear wheels to make initiating the burnout easier, although the procedure is expected to function similarly across the 2027 Stingray, Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X. Designed specifically for drag strip use, Burnout Assist provides a repeatable and factory-engineered method for preparing rear tires before a launch, though frequent use will inevitably accelerate tire wear.
