The team at Import 2 Race on YouTube recently captured a compelling roll race showdown between a modified C6 Corvette Z06 and the formidable Ford Mustang GTD. Lining up on one side is the 2025 Mustang GTD, the most extreme Mustang ever produced, packing over 800 horsepower from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 and advanced active aerodynamics designed to maximize grip.
Opposing it is the iconic C6 Corvette Z06, a lightweight, high-displacement performance legend long known for its dominance in roll racing. With 65 mph rolling starts to eliminate traction variables, the race focuses purely on top-end performance. The question: can the old-school brute still outrun Ford’s modern $300K powerhouse?
In this matchup, a modified C6 Z06 with over 800 horsepower goes head-to-head with the all-new Mustang GTD. Originally introduced in 2006, the Z06 came equipped with the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 producing 505 horsepower in factory form.
Meanwhile, the GTD represents a road-legal evolution of a GT3 race car, featuring major aerodynamic upgrades and the supercharged Predator V8 from the Shelby GT500, delivering an impressive 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
In the first run, the Z06 held its ground and took the win, posting a 148.52 mph trap speed versus the Mustang’s 142.23 mph. A rematch followed, but the outcome barely changed: the Corvette again led with 147.35 mph, while the GTD trailed at 141.96 mph. Not exactly the result expected from Ford’s flagship performance machine.
