Listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split-window coupe represents one of the most historically significant iterations of the second-generation Corvette. The C2 introduced the Stingray name, radically revised styling, and a new chassis engineered with improvements to steering, braking, and suspension. Designed by Larry Shinoda, its form drew inspiration from the Jaguar E-Type and Chevrolet’s 1959 XP-87 Stingray racing concept.
First sold through Star Chevrolet of East Orange, New Jersey, this example underwent an extensive refurbishment in 1991. The fiberglass body was removed from the frame and refinished in its factory Silver Blue, while the bumpers were re-chromed and numerous exterior components were replaced with factory parts. The work contributed to the car subsequently receiving Bloomington Gold, NCRS Top Flight, and Duntov Mark of Excellence awards in the early 1990s.
The Corvette is powered by a 327ci L76 small-block V8, factory-equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and high-lift camshaft. Rated at 340 horsepower when new, the engine sends its output through a four-speed manual transmission and an optional Positraction limited-slip differential reportedly fitted with 4.11:1 gearing.
The C2 was also notable for introducing fully independent suspension to the Corvette. Its front arrangement uses upper and lower control arms, while the rear employs a three-link configuration with a transverse leaf spring. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums equipped with metallic shoes. Silver-finished 15-inch steel wheels wear three-eared spinner-style chrome hubcaps and 6.70-inch Firestone Deluxe Champion tires. Exterior details include concealed flip-up headlamps, quad taillamps, and dual exhaust outlets integrated into the rear valance.
Inside, the cabin was refurbished alongside the bodywork and features dark blue vinyl bucket seats, matching carpets and door panels, a heater, AM/FM radio, analog clock, and lap belts. The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-mph speedometer, 6,500-rpm-redline tachometer, and auxiliary gauges monitoring amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level.
As an early C2, the 1963 split-window coupe combines landmark Corvette design with period-correct mechanical specification and documented concours-level recognition.
