The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 proved its high-speed credentials on Germany’s unrestricted Autobahn, reaching an impressive 313 km/h (194 mph) during AutoTopNL‘s latest real-world performance test. The run showcased not only the American supercar’s outright speed but also the remarkable composure and character of its naturally aspirated V8 at maximum attack.

Designed to evaluate performance beyond controlled test tracks, the drive featured repeated acceleration measurements, a full-throttle top-speed run, and multiple fly-by sequences that highlighted the unmistakable soundtrack of the Z06’s exotic powerplant. Interior footage captured the engine’s relentless climb toward its soaring redline, while roadside microphones emphasized the sharp, motorsport-inspired exhaust note under heavy load.

The European-spec Corvette Z06 differs slightly from its North American counterpart due to stricter emissions and noise regulations. Its hand-built 5.5-liter LT6 flat-plane-crank V8 produces 636 horsepower (645 PS) and 595 Nm of torque, a modest reduction from the U.S. version’s 670 hp resulting from the addition of gasoline particulate filters. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 3.5 seconds.

Despite the slight reduction in output, the Z06 remains one of the most engaging naturally aspirated performance cars available today. Its mid-engine architecture provides exceptional balance and stability, qualities that become increasingly apparent as speeds climb well beyond 250 km/h. Throughout the Autobahn test, the car demonstrated confident high-speed manners while maintaining relentless acceleration deep into triple-digit velocities.

European models retain the aggressive wide-body design, advanced aerodynamic package, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and massive Brembo braking system that have made the Z06 a formidable track machine. Large staggered forged wheels—20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear—paired with ultra-high-performance tires further enhance grip and stability.

More than a simple top-speed demonstration, the AutoTopNL test highlights what makes the C8 Z06 unique in today’s supercar landscape. By combining a naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V8 with a sophisticated mid-engine chassis, Chevrolet has created a machine that delivers both exhilarating sound and exceptional real-world performance, even while complying with demanding European regulations.
