  • The Z06 engine (LS7) had the same 427 cubic-inch displacement as the legendary big-block 1966-1969 Corvettes, although the 2006’s LS7 was built from a small-block engine. Hand assembled at GM’s performance build center in Wixom, Michigan, the engine featured 4.125-inch cylinder bores in an aluminum block with pressed-in steel cylinder liners, titanium connecting rods and intake valves, an 8-quart dry-sump oiling system with remote reservoir, 11:1 compression, 7000-rpm redline, and 3.7 seconds, 0-60 mph times.
  • The Z06’s battery was moved from under the hood (as in the coupe) to aft of the rear wheels.
  • The Z06 returned for the 2006 model year (after being absent for the inaugural model year of the C6).
  • Based on the Corvette coupe, the Z06 had unique aluminum-frame architecture, magnesium-supported fixed roof panel, a magnesium engine cradle, and specific body panels and trim unique to the Z06.
  • The Z06 had a unique front fascia with a larger grille and cold air scoop. Fenders were wider and restyled. The front fenders and wheelhouses were made of carbon fiber. Similarly, carbon fiber sandwiched the balsa floor. The passenger power seat adjuster was not available in the Z06. The car’s sound deadening system was reduced and the rear power hatch pulldown was eliminated.
  • These later items were installed to aid in reducing the Z06’s curb weight to 3,132 lbs.
  • The Z06’s frame, which was supplied by Dana Corp, was 30% lighter than its steel counterpart.
  • Z06 included extended mobility (run-flat) Goodyear Eagle F1 supercar tires, P275/35ZR18 front and P325/30ZR19 rear.
  • Z06 wheels, a specific 10-spoke design, were the same diameter as the base coupe and convertible models, but wider at 18×9.5 inch (front) and 19×12 inch (rear).
