CORVETTE LISTS

The Rarest Corvettes Ever Made

The rarest Corvette of every generation and the rarest of all time, with the real production counts: the one surviving 1983, the two 1969 ZL1s, the five Grand Sports, the twenty 1967 L88s, and the modern editions built by the dozen.

The rarest Corvette was never meant to exist. The 1983 pilot cars were built only to debug the new Bowling Green plant and were all scheduled for the crusher; the one that escaped was found half-dismantled, restored by the plant, and today it is the only 1983 Corvette in the world.

FAQs

What is the rarest Corvette ever made?

The 1983 Corvette. Chevrolet built about 43 pilot cars to shake down the new Bowling Green plant, never sold a 1983 model, and scrapped the pilots; one survived and lives at the National Corvette Museum. Among cars sold to the public, the rarest is the 1969 ZL1, with two built.

How many 1963 Corvette Grand Sports were built?

Five. Zora Arkus-Duntov built them in secret in 1963 as lightweight racers before GM shut the program down. All five survive and each is worth millions.

How many 1967 L88 Corvettes were made?

Twenty in 1967, the first year of the option, followed by 80 in 1968 and 116 in 1969, for 216 L88 Corvettes in all. The 1967 cars are the most valuable production Corvettes ever sold.

What is the rarest C8 Corvette?

The 2025 ZR1: only 180 were built before production moved to the 2026 model year. The rarest numbered edition is the 2026 Stars & Steel Limited Edition, 250 cars across the whole range, of which about 25 are ZR1s; the one-off Stars & Steel ZR1X was auctioned for charity for $2.6 million.

What is the rarest modern Corvette edition?

The 2019 Grand Sport Drivers Series, 95 cars across four liveries, followed by the 2009 GT1 Championship Edition at 125 and the 2011 Z06 Carbon Limited Edition at 252.

Is the 1953 Corvette rare?

Yes: 300 were built, all Polo White with red interiors, and roughly 225 survive. It is the rarest model year of Corvette production, though the 1955 (700 built) is not far behind.

Are rare Corvettes always valuable?

Usually but not always. The rarest cars with a performance story (the ZL1, L88, Grand Sport, ZR1) are worth seven and eight figures; a rare paint color or a low-production body style (the four Copper Metallic 1986s, the 2000 Fixed Roof Coupe) adds little over an ordinary example of the same year.
