Mecum is offering a particularly significant 1966 Chevrolet Corvette N03 Coupe at its Dallas/Fort Worth 2026 auction on October 24. The car is one of only two 1966 Corvettes exported to Canada with the rare N03 36.5-gallon “Big Tank” fuel system, making its factory specification central to its collector appeal. It was originally delivered to a Chevrolet dealership in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.
Finished in Rally Red over a black interior, the coupe retains its matching-numbers L79 327/350 HP V-8 paired with an M20 four-speed manual transmission. Power is complemented by a 4.11 Positraction rear axle, side exhaust, transistorized ignition, power steering and vacuum-assisted brakes. The car also features power windows, leather upholstery, tinted glass, headrest seats, a telescopic steering column and teakwood steering wheel. Cast-aluminum knock-off wheels with white-stripe tires complete its period-correct specification.
Its history is unusually well documented. The Corvette was ordered with 18 factory options and retains its original window sticker, order form, owner’s manual and Protect-O-Plate. Shortly after the original owner took delivery, the engine received a higher-lift camshaft and carburetor recalibration intended to enhance performance. The car was later part of the K.D. James Corvette Tanker Collection before undergoing a comprehensive collaborative restoration by Bob Gregory and Bruce and Scott Smith.
The Corvette’s credentials extend beyond its rare fuel-tank configuration. It has earned Bloomington Gold certification, multiple NCRS Top Flight awards, an MCACN Concours Gold award and Triple Diamond certification. These distinctions document both the quality of the restoration and its recognition within the Corvette collector community.
With its scarce N03 specification, matching-numbers drivetrain, extensive documentation and significant concours history, this 1966 Corvette represents a highly documented example of the second-generation Sting Ray.
