Twenty-three data points. One conclusion. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has become the hottest piece of merchandise in supercar circles, commanding unprecedented premiums over MSRP and forcing the exotic-car establishment to take notice. With 1,250 horsepower, electrified all-wheel drive, and performance that challenges machines costing millions, Chevrolet has delivered something the hypercar world never expected: an American-built contender that threatens its performance crown without demanding a hypercar-sized check. Our cross-market analysis of Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, Bring a Trailer, and dealer-only wholesale transactions reveals just how far this extraordinary Corvette has moved beyond the traditional rules of the game.
A Hypercar Vision, Engineered In-House
The ZR1X didn’t emerge overnight. General Motors developed the C8’s mid-engine architecture with this ultimate performance mission in mind: GM Senior Vice President Ken Morris proudly remarked, “From day one, we designed the mid-engine Corvette architecture with ZR1X in mind.” Chevrolet brought that vision to life by pairing the 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged LT7 V8—producing 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque—with a front-axle electric motor that adds another 186 horsepower and 145 lb-ft, for that eye-watering 1,250 horsepower. With Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder and teams across GM helping turn that ambitious concept into reality, the ZR1X has established itself as a legitimate American hypercar—and put high six-to seven-figure performance within reach at a fraction of the price of its European rivals.
The Premium Problem—And The Market’s Message
That achievement comes with a contentious side effect: the price of admission. Across Corvette Facebook groups and enthusiast forums, enthusiasts have been venting about dealer markups, scarce allocations, and heart-stopping premiums that can add six figures to an already expensive machine. The debate seems to intensify weekly, and fresh online speculation that GM could sell Corvettes directly to consumers has added another twist to the discussion. That remains a rumor, not an announced policy. Against this backdrop, our 23 data points offer a more consequential perspective: the market is already telling us what buyers will pay to get their hands on a ZR1X. For now, despite the premiums and markups, hypercar owners are on notice: the ZR1X is coming for you.

1 – Review: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Hybrid Highlights
- 1,250 combined horsepower (1,064 HP from the ZR1’s twin-turbocharged LT7 V8 plus 186 HP from a beefed-up version of the E-Ray’s electric motor)
- 973 combined lb-ft of torque (828 lb-ft from the LT7 plus 145 lb-ft from the front axle electric motor)
- Electrified AWD technology: Delivered via the E-Ray electric motor, but with 26 more horsepower and 20 additional lb-ft of torque.
- Hybrid! The battery’s 1.9-kWh gross capacity matches the E-Ray’s, but usable energy increased by 29 percent, allowing Chevy to raise the peak operating voltage and, in turn, output. This increased usable energy is combined with an extra 1000 rpm over the E-Ray (from 16,000 to 17,000).
- Performance: GM’s official time on a prepped track for 0 to 60 mph is 1.68 seconds, while the ZR1X rips the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds at 159.57 mph.
- Chevrolet reveal video quotes: “The most powerful car we’ve ever produced. The quickest Corvette ever at 1,250 horsepower.”
- Stopping Power! Chevy designed a totally new braking kit (internally called the J59 package). The new set includes Alcon 10-piston front and six-piston rear calipers mated to 16.5-inch front and rear rotors, the largest discs ever offered on a Corvette.
