The latest chapter in the C8 Corvette story isn’t decided by a traditional drag strip showdown, but by a head-to-head comparison between two distinctly different performance machines. NASCAR driver Jesse Iwuji joined Mike from Brink of Speed to evaluate the 2024 Corvette E-Ray alongside the all-new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, revealing how Chevrolet has engineered two Corvettes with very different personalities despite sharing the same platform.

At first glance, both cars wear the familiar widebody C8 silhouette, but closer inspection uncovers significant aerodynamic revisions on the Grand Sport. It features a redesigned front splitter, larger side skirts, updated brake package, and numerous airflow improvements that distinguish it from the hybrid-powered E-Ray. The Grand Sport also eliminates the front-mounted radiator used in the E-Ray, improving front storage practicality while showcasing Chevrolet’s revised cooling strategy.

Under the rear hatch, the differences become even more apparent. The 2024 E-Ray relies on its 6.2-liter LT2 V8 paired with an electric front axle, producing all-wheel-drive traction and explosive launches. The 2027 Grand Sport counters with a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter V8 generating 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, emphasizing mechanical simplicity and abundant low-end pull over electrified assistance.

Inside, Chevrolet’s interior redesign further separates the two models. While the E-Ray retains the original C8 cockpit layout with its distinctive center control spine, the Grand Sport adopts the newer digital dashboard introduced for 2026 models. Additional display space, configurable performance data, and a cleaner center console create a more modern driving environment without sacrificing usability

On the road, the comparison becomes especially compelling. The Grand Sport impresses with sharper transmission calibration, stronger mid-range torque, refined suspension tuning, and remarkable confidence through corners. Iwuji noted that the car feels more polished than previous C8 variants, with predictable power delivery that inspires drivers to push harder without overwhelming them.

The E-Ray, however, quickly reminds everyone why it remains one of the quickest Corvettes in Chevrolet’s lineup. Its hybrid all-wheel-drive system delivers instant acceleration that pins occupants into their seats, making it a formidable straight-line performer while remaining remarkably approachable.

Rather than producing a clear winner, the comparison highlights Chevrolet’s evolving performance philosophy. The E-Ray excels as a technologically advanced acceleration machine, while the Grand Sport delivers a more traditional, naturally aspirated driving experience with refined handling and balance. Together, they demonstrate that today’s Corvette lineup offers enthusiasts two equally compelling paths to high-performance driving.
